The writing tonight was awful and made no sense. They have basically got Steven in to fill in the void left by Peter, but it just doesn't hold.

I thought Lauren's explanation regarding Peter was really good. They could have been lazy and said he slept with someone else. Instead they said Lauren and Peter fell apart because of Lucy and because they were hiding the truth.

Maybe they thought it was too soon after Ben Hardy left? But that hasn't stopped them in the past. Johnny was recast just over a year later. Lauren was recast within months.

I hated tonight's episode. Steven shouldn't be anywhere near that family after what he's done.

It was further salt in the wounds for how much that family has been butchered. There was actually a point in time they were credible, as hard as that is to believe now.

Lauren could've come back by herself, and the explanation would've maybe been credible. But combined with Steven coming back it just seems utterly absurd.

I always found Peter 2 a really wooden actor .

I do think this Lauren and Steven thing is just a temporary thing, can see the likes of kush and even Vincent sniffing around soon

Why is it absurd? Maybe we haven't been told the whole story yet.

I'm actually glad Stevens been brought back, the family needs some new life. Peter is too vanilla, they needed a character with an edge to stand against what Ian and Jane have done.

I'm anticipating an Andy/Lauren relationship actually.

Maybe they want to give Ben Hardy more time to decide. Besides Steven is a far more interesting character than Peter and Aaron is a better actor than Ben.

I don't want Peter to be recast, i'm tired of characters getting recast, it's been happening too much in recent times.

Peter has already been played by 6 different people and the character is only 23 years old. They need to leave the character out for a while and hope that one of Thomas Law ( unlikely ) or Ben Hardy come back one day. If after a while none of them return, then they should recast him for someone who wants to stay in the show for longer than a couple of years.

Well, Bobby killed Lucy and tried to kill Jane and they still wanted him part of the family. If they can forgive Bobby then Steven deserves the same chance. He may not be Ian's biological son, but he seen him as his own throughout his childhood.

Maybe, but I don't think that Ben will return to EastEnders, since he is now acting in Hollywood.

Side note: I like that Maddy Hill isn't after success in Hollywood. Most English actors want to run off to the US, even though there are plenty of good UK dramas. It feels like some actors don't think that success in the UK is good enough.

I read that the work dried up pretty quickly...I don't think he's had the success he hoped for.

It's too soon to recast Peter and I actually think bringing Steven back is a good move - but I'd like to see him genuinely care for the Beales and not turn against them. He's older and hopefully less messed up now.

As for Ben, he's currently making a name for himself in Hollywood - good for him. However, I always thought they killed off the wrong twin. Ben is unlikely to come back and quit part way through the Lucy murder (his last day being the final live episode). As a result we lost both the Beale twins within a year, which is damaging for such a central family - especially with Kathy back. I think Hetti would've stayed a while too.

I can believe Peter cutting his losses with Lauren and the Beale family.

Have people forgotten how awful he was to Lola?

Exactly. Peter definitely had a selfish, almost reclusive side to his personality where he would just become cold and standoffish when he was unhappy about something. The explanation for why his and Lauren's relationship broke down was actually better than I was expecting.

I agree with this. I made a similar point in a post last week and then got slated for it, but it is valid.

This is the problem of killing off the wrong twin. Ben was clearly not going to stay around. Should've killed Ben.

Yes but the now ex producer seemed hell bent on getting rid of young female characters

I know, Lucy had so much potential. She could have got pregnant by Max and that meant Ian would be a Grandad and Max would be the Dad

Agreed. Peter didn't have much character, Lucy had it in spades. Plus now we'd have Lucy and Kathy together as well.

Actress just wasn't cutting it. Blame casting director. It was either yet another head or kill her off.

Any possible Peter recasting aside, I think you hit the nail on the head about Steven returning to fill in that void OP - in-show I think that is precisely why he's back [and got with Lauren] in the first place.

Yes they are bringing back Steven to replace Peter, thats why Lauren is with Steven and thats why by next week Steven will probably move in with Ian and Ian will start calling him son again
