Obviously with what happened in November in Paris , most of France will be on high alert from terrorism , France must also contend with public sector strikes and the twin threat of hooliganism .
Plus I have also heard both Ireland teams are being watched by a security team due to IRA threats (I know the main worry is Isis but the IRA I'm sure would love to target or at least disrupt a big tournament ) .

My gut feeling is the stadiums themselves will be safe and even the fan parks. However my main worry is other areas of France where people are watching games in pubs and restaurants as realistically you can't have armed guards outside all these places.

As safe as anywhere else.

Where have you heard about the IRA?

What have the IRA got to do with anything?

That cannot be correct. The teams will have security alright but only in connection to the threat by international terrorists.

In 2016, what was the IRA is either in government in Stormont or a bunch if fat blokes in shady pubs reminiscing about the old days and attempting and failing the odd bomb attempt.

I was going to take my kid and my best friend and make a holiday of it, but now I'm not going because, even though I know there is always a risk everywhere and I think all of Europe's secret service is now in France, I still think it's not worth taking that extra bit of risk

Well not really, the stadia and fan parks are known targets

I personally would think twice about going, as they are absolutely impossible to police

Personally I think it would be safer. Do terrorists want to attack areas where they know people are waiting for it to happen? where there is extra security? I 'm not sure. But regardless, I don't believe the fear of something maybe happening should stop you doing anything in life - if we all thought in that way, none of us would ever leave the house.

I'm like a dodger of bad stuff like this!!!

Parents flew out of NYC a few hours before 9/11 and we went a couple of months after.
We flew to London 2 days after the bombings
We went to Marrakech the week after the café bombings
We'd just left NYC when the plane landed on the Hudson.

And yes I'm going to the Euros

It honestly doesn't bother me. I'd rather go when places are on high alert and people are more vigilant if I'm honest.

Exactly, have those people not going considered that with the security focus on France, other countries Are probably an easier target.

I dont think France are going to take any chances at this years tournament. They are going to make sure the security is extra tight because peoples safety is their main priority

French security is absolute rubbish though if you've ever had to deal with them. I just can't believe they'll have it covered. The good thing is that all of Europe is deploying their secret service etc there, so I think it probably will be safe

There IS no security there, it's a myth.

There is simply nothing you can do to police the areas outside the stadia or the metro, or the fan areas.

From media reports you could walk up to the England team over the past few days and have a chat with them.

unfortunately if a person wants to murder hundreds of people, they could do so. No amount of security is going to stop them.

To be fair, you can say the same about London or any big city. When everyone expects for something to happen (like people did at the London Olympics) it's always safer

This is a sports event at higher risk than probably any other. We are relying on French and European intelligence having already disrupted many plans of those with ill intentions and we need to hope tht any that have slipped through the net are apprehended or spotted or cock up.

Fingers crossed all who go to support are safe

IS are cowards, they prefer to attack soft targets who can't fight back rather than somewhere with loads of armed security in attendance.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do carry out attacks in France during the tournament, but I don't think it'll be at the actual stadia.

Yep, stadiums least likely targets. Bars, fan zones much softer targets

You can say the same about London, but because of its location and free passage across borders, Paris and France is a far easier target.

They have proved they can hit targets in Paris, and have targeted stadia and cafes and bars before.

There will be zero security stopping people entering fan zones, it's just impossible to protect a whole country.

This is our first big even in Europe , and will be a major target.

Lets be honest you've got 75,000 at Old Trafford every other weekend - if you wanted to do it you'd be better doing it there on a random game where it's not on the radar as much.

I think if anything were to happen it'd probably be over here where there's less focus.
