Journalists actually there suggest English fans have been pretty badly targeted. Russians and Marseille fans looking for trouble.

Must be England's fault though.
See if you know that there is going to be trouble at a particular place and you don't want to be part of it, what would you do?

Personally, I'd stay away from that place.

The Russians are a different animal to the English when it comes to this stuff.

The thing is quite often these thugs aren't always the typical low life filth.

Read somewhere a few work in the city etc!

Quite what they get out of all this goodness knows..

Presume they must be part of the England Fan club membership the FA set up or does that not count for tournaments?

The England fans involved aren't angels and we know what English people drunk can be like. But there is a difference between drunken idiots and organised hooliganism.

Russian football still has a big problem with it. Good luck in 2018!

It is about time uefa got on top of these hooligans. If these had been clubs they would have been banned by now. No way should Russian get any footballing tournament at the moment, them, France and England should be banned from the next tournament. It is the only way anything is going to change. It will be sad for the genuine fans, but something has to give, before there is a serious loss of life.

Like I said earlier, for the Russians it is like a job. You can see the videos on youtube or them fighting in forests and the likes, they take is very seriously. Any England fan putting themselves in the situation where they know there is going to be trouble with them is either very brave or completely stupid.

You can't ban England or Russia because of what their fans are doing miles from the ground. If there is trouble inside the ground then fair enough but not for something where the various FAs have absolutely no control.

But this latest flare up isn't "miles from the ground" - it's right outside the stadium.

Is it beyond a ticket cordon or could any member of the public be there?

If we are going to introduce strict liability for what happens outside the ground then we would be setting a very dangerous precedent IMO.

Well this is going to bode well for the World Cup in Russia!

At least the British media are now reporting that it's the English fans who are being provoked by Russian and Marseille fans.

LOL, no.

I'm saying that in a public place anyone could be involved and it would be wrong to punish a FA for the actions of their 'fans' if it happened in a public place.

According to Henry Winter.

Euro 2000, June 18, Uefa warns FA any more hooliganism in Brussels/Charleroi and England will be thrown out. Knocked out anyway.

The full rule is "The associations are responsible for the behaviour of their players, officials, members, supporters and any person carrying out a function at a match on their behalf." however it doesn't mention where it covers.

If anything was to happen for violence which occurs away from the ground then we'll see some very expensive court cases happening. And lets be honest here, there is no way that UEFA is going to boot a team out and cancel matches as it will lose them money.

As a slight aside to what is happening in Marseille I wonder if we'll see trouble in Nice tomorrow before the Poland v Northern Ireland game?

That was trouble last time the Poles were in Belfast which was linked to the number of attacks on the Polish people who live there.
