So moving forward Panasonic are going to buy in their panels from others such as LG but produce the rest of the set themselves. An interesting development and comment on the profitability of the TV market.

It's a becoming bit like the camera market then, where the Japanese makers often source their sensors from elsewhere e.g. Sony (who also produce their own cameras) and have done for years. There should still be big differences in the final TVs produced though.

So that'll leave Philips, Samsung and LG as the maker of most screens, with the Turkish Vestel type screens that are put in unbranded and cheap range sets being the most numerous I would suppose?

One has to wonder how much cheaper can they push out these things for? - all TV manufacturers are hell bent on driving down price, I dread to think that in 5 or 10 years time Vestel, UMC and a few Chinese companies will be making all TV sets.

As far as I'm aware they have been sourcing some panels from other manufacturers for quite a while - as do Samsung and LG (and all others) as well.
