Vodafone Wifi calling
Hi
Has anyone actually used vodafone wifi calling successfully? Apparently Vodafone decided not to support iphone 6 and 6 plus for their wifi calling offering even though those models are obviously capable of wifi calling. this is really puzzling me. |

I don't know why they haven't supported the 6. I have a 6s plus and I find wifi calling to be excellent.
from the live chat: Yes jmmo20, I can certainly understand that. But the newest feature of WiFi calling were added to the iPhones manufactured after August 2015. So the devices manufactured before August 2015 didn't had this feature some nonsense. I rely on wifi calling heavily and assumed all iphones with the wifi calling capability would be supported. Obviously I was wrong and I will have to leave vodafone. |

And 5c & 5S
Surely they must want the most users reaching their network, even when there's no signal. Technically there's nothing preventing them from supporting all capable iphones. |

Maybe their IMS servers can't handle much load?

And even in good signal areas, any calls handled via wifi use fewer resources on the local masts.. So that's of benefit as well!

Vodafone obviously haven't done it right considering it doesn't handle texts and only works at low signal levels.

There is absolutely no technical reason why wifi calling on a iPhone 6 won't work on Vodafone it is just they have deliberately limited it to certain iPhones through the carrier update they send them.

I finally have Vodafone Wifi Calling now that I've bought an iPhone 7 Plus (even though it would have presumably worked on my iPhone 6 Plus if Vodafone hadn't been so strange about blocking it!). I read on here that Vodafone only use the wifi calling when there is no phone signal, however I do get Wifi calling sometimes even when I have signal. It seems a bit random though, sometimes I'll have it and sometimes I won't, even in the same location or in different locations but where they show a similar signal strength. Does anyone know how the phone decides whether to use wifi calling or not? Can it be done based on network congestion or is it always worked out using signal strength?

Vodafone wifi calling works fine on my unbranded S7 even though according to Vodafone it will only work on handsets bought through them. It is a major battery drain though on the S7 at least so I never use it.

Is there a way to tell you're using WiFi calling on an iPhone with Vodafone?

You might have to disable WiFi in a call, or turn off the router (if you can) to see if the call drops. |

I'm no longer with Vodafone but when I had service with them my iPhone 6S Plus displayed Vodafone UK WiFi call as posted above at home as the signal is terrible.
I assumed it automatically worked; it did seem to take slightly longer to activate if I placed the phone into Airplane Mode mind. |
