Analysts via CNN claimed it had lost 80 mil and AOL Time Warner mentioned it in one of their financial reports as underperforming. I'd be amazed if they didn't lose a significant amount because the roster was still huge in 2000. The salary list has been seen and it was crazy. You only have to watch back the shows to see the audience shrinking. The production values dropped too around that time. There were loads of planned live events dropped. The ratings decline back then is obviously genuine - I'm guessing TBS and TNT sold ad rates at a higher rate based off a much higher number.
Edit: losing 60- 80 could be spun in many ways, however. That amount could account for potentially lost profits as the drop was so steep. Losing a 1/4 or 1/2 of PPVs and ratings, respectively, should still have kept them profitable. Only they were expected to earn way more at even the most pessimistic forecast.
