How would you rate 2016 EastEnders so far?
Now that we are around half way through the year and the soap year, how would you rate EastEnders so far in 2016?
For me, the show had had a MUCH more consistent first half of the year than that of 2015, when EE fell apart after the 30th anniversary. There are however some inconsistencies and the balance can still be a little poor. The show started off very strongly with Mick and Linda's new year wedding, and the aftermath of Dean's attempted rape on Roxy. These provided some strong material, giving the show a huge figure of 8.3 million viewers, which still remains the most watched soap episode this year. This was a long running storyline which kind of needed to end and it did so in fantastic style and gave the show a big boost, after the Christmas episodes (Which I did actually enjoy) failed to create a massive buzz. The following weeks saw the show on top form, in my opinion. The return of Kat, Alfie, Charlie, etc... Actually did the show wonders and proved there will always be a place for Kat on EastEnders, (I really hope SOC brings her back!). Charlie's death, Alfie's tumour Stacey's Postportum Psychosis delivered some beautiful performances from Jessie Wallace, Shane Richie and Lacey Turner, whilst also allowing us to be introduced to the wonderful Carli Norris as Belinda. Running alongside, we had Phil's alcoholism, the breakdown of Phil and Sharon's marriage and the return of Peggy, where the big death storyline was revealed. Ryan's return and Stacey being sectioned for a second time saw the rest of January through, as it proved to be a good month, for me. February - April wasn't AS good, but there were still plenty of things to enjoy. Shabnam leaving Kush with Jade, was a nice exit for the character as she finally got the ending she wanted. The Mother's Day episodes with the Lucas/Jordan and Claudette drama were brilliant, Jack's return and Ronnie's stalker storyline has been intriguing, whilst other families like the Carter's, Ben and Abi, etc... Have had their fair share of storylines. May this year was incredible for me. Peggy's death, Grant's return, the Bobby drama and Lauren returning to help Max have allowed the show to be on top form and the best it's been for years in my opinion. Even more so than the 30th anniversary in a way. It has received a lot of attention the past few weeks and having Grant, Phil, Sharon, Kathy, Peggy, Ian, Dot and many more all on screen at the same time, this is the closest the show has been to 'Classic EastEnders' in a long, long time. I'd go so far as to say it HAS been Classic EastEnders. If the new EP could now work on improving pacing, include more everyday life scenes, shake up the cast and crew a tiny bit, I'd feel EE was in safe hands. So far, I'd give 2016 an 7 or 8 out of 10. It's been a strong year so far in my opinion. With Peggy's funeral, Grant's extended return, Max being released from prison and a new producer all to come, I'm excited for what the rest of the year has to offer.

It's improved just recently for me because of Peggy's death and the wonderful scenes with Steve McFadden, this gives it rating much higher than it deserves.
I don't see it keeping that up though. |

I've found it pretty inconsistent to be honest. Some brilliant weeks and some dire ones. The pacing has been all over the place and there was a nasty, misogynistic tone going on for a while with Abi's humiliation shortly followed by Denise's humiliation, both of which almost had me turning off. For me it's been obvious that DTC has been trying to wrap stuff up quickly and there was a hugely noticeable dip in quality, both in terms of acting and writing, before Peggy's return.
It's been great the last few weeks, however. I do hope it lasts although I suspect that it will pretty much close up shop over the summer, which they'd now be filming for with apparently no EP in charge until SOC starts. |

The only great thing I can truly say about this year is Slater week. Other than that, it's been a mess.

Hit and miss. Have loved it since Peggy's return and the Bobby reveal but thought the Jay plot and aftermath was poor and unrealistic, can't bring myself to care for the Hubbards and thought the Nancy / Mick fallout was poorly written and out of character for all involved.

I'm giving it a 3. Why? Just look at the Roxy drug mule/stolen toliets storylines. No credible storyliners should be allowed to get this anywhere near broadcast.

4/10.
It's had moments of brilliance with Peggy and Charlie's deaths, Bobby finally being arrested and the Vincent/Claudette drama. The rest has ranged from decent to absolute turd and it feels like DTC is rushing to wrap everything he wants to up before he goes. |

Already a big improvement on last year. There were still bad weeks but I did like Stacey's postpartum psychosis, Kat, Alfie, Belinda returns, parts of Phil's alcoholism and Bobby owning up to Lucy's murder. I'm glad that Lauren and Steven are back and let's hope that Abi becomes more bearable.

DTC is an awful producer overall imo. He had an okay 2014 but 2015.2016 has been dreadful.

Yep. I don't know about anyone else, but I began to notice the decline of DTC's work during the wedding week of Phil and Sharon.

The first 5 months were good, but the summer of 2014 is in my opinion the worst summer the show has ever had (Only given competition by 2013's). It was 3 months of utter utter turd. September was good, but the last few months were so tacky and it was flooded by new characters. It didn't feel like EastEnders at all. 2015 was more inconsistent on the whole, but it felt a bit more like EastEnders again. I think the one thing that really saved 2015 though is the 30th anniversary. |

It has been hit and miss, in my opinion. There has been lacklustre weeks but there were some action-packed weeks. My favourite storylines this year were Phil's alcoholism, Kat and Alfie's returns, all of the Carters storylines, the Bobby reveal, Peggy's tragic death, Claudette/Vincent/Patrick dramas and Stacey's post-partum psychosis (hope I spelt it right).
But it hasn't been perfect and there were times when I was utterly bored of some of the plots. They need to give Shirley and Kathy some storylines. Shirley is one of my favourites but why is she always pushed to the background? 7/10, in my opinion and I'm being too generous. I'm dreading the summer storylines because we don't have an EP overseeing the storylines because Sean O'Connor hasn't started yet apparently. |
