The Best & Worst Soap Aftermaths?
Stube
02-06-2016
A lot of attention is always on the actual storylines and their climaxes, so I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks the best and the worst soap aftermaths are.

BEST:
- The cover-up of the Who Killed Lucy? plot. It wasn't just any other aftermath. It took the storyline into a completely different direction. The focus shifted from Lucy to Bobby which I think was an imaginative idea.

WORST:
- the fall-out of Denise being kidnapped by Lucas and "presumed dead" by everybody on the square. I was really looking forward to the moment when Denise showed all of the residents that she is still alive but, other than her own family, no one really seemed that shocked despite knowing that her body had been identified and even attending her funeral. Silly Kirkwood!

Worst
-helicopter crash, for such big disaster killed off only one real character in val. Ruby was likable but very forgettable and her family moved away instantly so we didn't really see them grieving. It's almost like it never happened chrissie seemed to feel guilty for a month or so then completely forget what she had done and is apparently going to start planning more revenge.

-Roberts shooting again no real consequences or aftermath it was just done to facilitate Debbie's exit. It was also insulting that the police dropped the whole investigation on one phone call where he give a vague false description of an imaginary mam. I would like this ro come out so Ross and Andy can stop taking the moral high ground and just for once face the consequences of their actions.

I think one of the worst aftermaths has to be the domestic abuse storyline with Patrick and Maxine is HO due to the fact that nobody batted an eyelid when the truth was revealed and then thought Maxine was in the wrong even though everyone saw the bruises and I thought it was just a mess. Also, after that, nobody mentioned it for a good few weeks after that.

The worst aftermath has to be Peggy's death......there hasn't been one!

The worst aftermath that springs to mind was the wedding massacre on Dynasty. It was a big thing for the show. It was barmy but it left the whole cast on death's door. The end result was the death of two very minor characters. A great example of a big cliffhanger that was done for a ratings ploy, not for storyline purposes.

Yes that was really bad.

WORST:

Days of Our Lives for the aftermath of the Salem Stalker story which saw Marlena kill off several long term cast members only for it to turn out that she was under the control of Andre Dimera when she did it and that all of her victims were alive and being held on a remote island called Melaswen which looked exactly like their town of Salem. EP Ken Corday claims that the outcome of that story was always planned but I believe it was a last minute rewrite from all the negative press the show received for the story line.

Emmerdale's helicopter crash is another bad one

Best:

Emmerdale's Kings River Explosion, I thought this was handled really well from the clips I've seen of it on youtube

Also All My Children's 1994 Tornado the aftermath of that played out well as the tornado created new stories like Julia had her faced scarred by a falling chandelier then ran away which lead to her getting raped and pregnant by Louie but it also lead to her meeting the love of her life Noah.

So much this! The build up was very good, both Patrick and Maxine were great in the story, but the aftermath was nothing. People stood looking at the bruises that covered her body (more humiliation for Maxine) and then afterwards were just like "meh. Whatevs. He's not so bad I guess."

The aftermath of the Laura collins arc was disappointing in Dark Shadows. It was a short arc unlike most other arcs on Dark Shadows but it was a good one. It had a great climax involving a fire. The problem was of course the aftermath, especially regarding the character of David who pretty much was nearly killed by his own mother and then saw his own mother's apparent death. But the effects of that event were pretty much swept under the rug and there was little mention of it once it happened. It would of been nice to see David struggle but we didn't.

A much as i love Emmerdale their aftermaths i feel are always a let down, as mentioned already the helicopter crash and who shot robert 2 very clear examples.

If Ross gets punished, then surely Robert has to? And Cain? Well half the village should be in jail.

I think for Best, it would be Kings River Explosion on ED, like Mark already said, or the Corrie tram crash. The aftermath of Cameron on ED was quite well done as well, and I remember the aftermath of Donna's death was really sad and well-handled.

But as everyone's already said, they just abandoned doing any aftermath on anything in the middle of last year. The helicopter crash and Who Shot Robert had zero aftermath, pretty much.

One of the best aftermaths for me is when Arthur some the Christmas club money and then had his breakdown on EE. I seem to remember that the aftermath went on for some time as he got treatment and it wasn't a five minute recovery. Thought bill treacher played it all marvelously.

Most of the aftermaths of a death in Hollyoaks are pretty bad - everyone just seems to move on after about a day or two!

Or they drag on like the GHK storyline..

The most compelling soap aftermath I've ever watched was from the original plane crash In Emmerdale.

Soaps just don't write stuff with that level of involvement & depth anymore.

Definitely agree with this. it made a mockery of the whole storyline.

I was too young to watch that but from what I understand the aftermath was felt for years which is how it should be chris Tate ended up in a wheelchair and because of this realistic changed personality to an embittered angry and insecure man, so the disaster actually had consequences. If Kate Oates was in charge Chris Tate would be walking now and turning to a career in professional kick boxing.

Yes her family were the only ones bothered however within a day or two of Denise's return both Chelsea and Libby moved away. They had just got their mother back after thinking for weeks she was dead and after all the trauma they and their mother went through they decide to bugger off and leave her
