EE: Has Kathy met her great grandson yet?
Kathy was seen conversing with Lauren but there seemed to be no mention of Peter's baby, or Kathy meeting him.
Likewise, has Kathy never discussed Lexi with Ben? Another grandchild she doesn't seem bothered about. |

She didn't seem happy to see Steven either, I know there's the history with Jane but she has a long history with Steven and classed him as a grandchild for many years.

Kathy doesn't seem to care about anyone except her sons, Bobby and Martin. She's shown no emotion or grief whatsoever about Lucy's death, any time she's bought up by Ian or someone else she's not even the slightest bit upset by her death, or the fact that she didn't just abandon her sons but also her grandkids.
I find it quite disgusting how little she gives a damn about Lucy, even Phil was moved by Lucy's death and the affect it had on Ian, Kathy acts like Lucy was nothing to her, she seems to have forgotten any love she had for her. |

She didn't even seem dissapointed that Peter hadn't come back even though she's not seen him for over ten years.

She seems to be emotionally detached from most of her family. As for Lexi, no one mentions her anymore, not even Phil and Billy.

The writing for Kathy is all wrong. I don't know who this woman is who seems more bothered about Bobby than what Bobby's actually done! She knew Lucy well yet seems unmoved by her horrible death? But the character is a limp lettuce really. It's like TPTB loved the idea of bringing her back and wanted to be the team to do it but haven't had a clue what to do with her since. The scene where her and Ian first meet again was a colossal let down for starters. I'm starting to wish that they'd gone with an amnesia storyline for her or likewise if they were that desperate to bring her back as this willingly leaving her kids/grandkids for money/a man just doesn't work, not with the Kathy that was known pre-fake death. It's always going to be a stick for her kids to beat her with and probably why she's so cowed in their presence. Her fake-death should never have been her fault IMO. |

She tried knocking on the door but Lauren wouldn't let her in so she peeped through a gap in the curtains and sang, "My granddaughter's a BealeStiff, let me inna your window, Louis, it's me Kathy, let me inna your window, it's meee, Katheeee..."

There is just really nothing to her that makes her a particularly interesting character. I imagine the many viewers who started watching after she left are completely indifferent to her and are flabbergasted by all the hype surrounding her resurrection.

I'm not fussed on her as a character but she's alright, in my opinion. She's one of the nicest characters but she needs a backbone. I think we can blame it on bad writing and hope for the best when Sean O'Connor becomes EP. I like her a lot when she has heartfelt scenes with Martin.
I don't think Louis is her main priority right now. Bobby confessed he killed Lucy to the police and Jane dumped Ian = Kathy needs to help her family. |

Kathy's lack of care for her grandchildren (dead or alive) excepting Bobby is complete at odds with what i consider to be 'proper' Kathy (85-99) but then so was the concept that she could ever willingly allow her children to think she was dead - especially the one who was only 10 years old, partially disabled, a sensitive lad and would need to be raised by Phil Mitchell, a man she moved continents to get away from.
This is why I always said that I believed it was impossible to bring Kathy back in a plausible way - faking her death would be so out of character it would completely change her character and the trauma of having been forced into it, having amnesia, being held captive, been in a coma would also have changed her character so much they might as well just say it is a double but different person. I actually think the way she has been on screen proves i was right. They can't write her as she was because of the explanation they gave for bringing her back from the dead. As mentioned Lucy was 6 when she emigrated and she was the only child whp lived in London the whole time - she spent a lot of time with her, especially during the year that Cindy had taken Steven and Peter away so she had to help Ian raise her. Ian also visited Kathy several times, taking Lucy with him so Kathy was part of her life until she was 12. There was a relationship there, she would care about her death and the circumstances of it. I assume that Kathy (and Ian come to that) have met and cooed over Louis off screen. Hardly surprising, virtually every important thing re Kathy's return (most people learning she is still alive and how, what happened with Steven as she clearly knows from her reaction to his returning at 2 examples) has happened off screen. Maybe sub consciously she doesn't seem bothered about Lexi and Louis because she doesn't want to admit she is old enough for her M+M baby to be a father and even more for her to be a great grandmother?! |

What I think should have happened is that she should have got amnesia or locked away etc not of her own doing but after that, she made the decision to stay away for a few years of this;
Couldn't face them again, Didn't want to disrupt their life, Felt that they might not need her etc Something that isn't as clear cut as her not being in control and not her choice. It's should have been part of both |

I would think she has, but its a baby, its not like she can talk with it, about the family its been born into (or should that be warned about) or anything like that, so it may not have been worth seeing on screen.
As for Lexi, I think she is going to be totally forgotten about for 10 years, until she returns wanting to meet her Dad, who is at that point about to marry his 3rd husband, and shocking everyone is doing an alright job managing the R&R. |

She's lovely but in a nice neighbour sort of way, not (at the moment) a good soap character, which is disappointing for such an iconic character. She needs her own storyline, she's good when with her friends etc. but that's not enough.

They need to turn Kathy into the family orientated matriarch the Beale/Fowlers have sorely lacked since Pauline's death.
The whole show needs more faaaaamily orientation tbh. |
