Christina Aguilera
Lily Layfield

Does anyone miss her being really good?

Yesterday I listened to Stripped for the first time in years and while its always been one of my favourite ever albums I forgot just how much I loved it.

Do you think because it was her second album she just peaked too soon?

stripped is a really great album and she has got some great songs in her later work, hurt is one of my favourite songs of hers. but i think being likeable is just as important a factor in having a good career in the music industry than the music is, and she just isn't likeable. other than her amazing vocal i don't think she really has that star quality that is needed really.

You could be right about her personality. She does come across as very cold.

I think the Bionic album turned her career around (in the wrong direction).

It was the "Artpop" announcing of something new maybe that the public did not like from her. Strange though as "Not myself tonight" fitted right in the "Everybody turns to dance music" mode we are in since 2007

Yeah I remember her talking about Bionic being a totally new sound of music and I was excited to hear she was working with Ladytron but the entire album is just generic rubbish aside from the ballads so I have no idea what she was talking about there.

These days she would need to collaborate probably to get a hit, like the one with Pitbull

She's an afterthought compared to the others of her time Pink, Britney etc.

She has always been very hit and miss. Honestly there are a few things that killed her singing career. The first? Her incoherent discography, she jumps on every new trend but is always just too late to capitalize on it. The second? She takes too long to put out albums, by the time she does most people have forgotten her again. And lastly and most importantly, her personality, no two ways about it, she's a complete and utter cow. Always harping on about jealous people, how talented she is, how superior her voice is, always starting feuds with those she cannot beat, and not to mention her apparent "diva" behaviour. The incident where she yelled at someone in an interview because they "dared" to cough comes to mind here.
Her voice is good, her music is largely good, she just needs to get her butt in gear, promote her music well, release some good songs, and stop being such a bitch.

I think she can be a bitch if she wants but the music just hasn't been there to back it up

Being an unlikeable b*tch never harmed Mariah's career!

She shot herself in the foot by dissing Lady Gaga just as she started to make her rise to the top, and then by releasing an album which seemed very similar to everything Gaga was doing.

I suppose mentally she's done better than Britney though, considering they came from the same child star background. If she had stayed at the top of her game the whole way since she debuted, she too might have had a nervous breakdown.

The fact she is a bitch and her music comes across as desperate and uncreative has done her no favors. In general, she isn't very well liked among many other artists and a few music producers. If it wasn't for The Voice, she wouldn't of remained slightly relevant as she has continued to be. But then she isn't known to be well liked on that show either but her name alone attracts attention and her fans which is why they would never fire her.

The breakdown weirdly helped cement Britney's place in pop culture and therefore her music as well. Xtina like i said before is pretty much an afterthought these days, in the same place as Mandy Moore or Nelly Furtado.

Its sad her attitude has ruined her. She does have talent. I listened to Back To Basics last night too and never really enjoyed it much until now. Maybe I needed to be older to appreciate it.

That's true, I meant more in terms of, at least Christina has her health. Britney has the look of like a deer in the headlights and a shell of her former self even nowadays most of the time. I feel very sorry for her.

True. She only seems happy (at least in photos) when she's with her sons.

Britney looks, talks and acts like a robot thesedays. Its tragic what has happened to her. She must be drugged up to the eyeballs.

Britney doesn't have half the talent Christina has, she just has more likability and more radio friendly music. Lotus was a steaming pile of rubbish, though. Burlesque has the best demonstration of Christina's vocals in my opinion. I wish she'd dig a bit deeper in future projects. No more reaching for notes she's straining to achieve. Her voice will end up like Mariah's.

Same goes for Madonna and Mary J. Blige.

Unlike Christina, Mariah has a strong catalogue of music to back her up. She also comes across as funny and likeable in interviews. Most of Christina's music is bland and forgettable. The only way she can get a hit nowadays is if she piggybacks on someone else's song. She also walks around with permanent bitch face and a massive ego. If she had treated industry people better on the way up, they might be more willing to help her out now that she's a Z-list nonentity without a solo US number one single to her name since 2001. She's thoroughly unlikeable and deserves all the animosity aimed at her.

You must be stuck in 2007.

I've always thought she was overrated. She's had one great album and that's it. None of her other albums have been anything to write home about. Also, the way she uses her voice is awful. She has a fantastic voice, but the way she uses it puts me off her. She falls into the same category as Jesse J in terms of that (don't worry, I think she's much better than Jesse). Too much shouting and too many riffs.

I always did like Britney as a child but I have to agree, sadly. She's not as bad as she was in 2007, thankfully but she is clearly on a lot of medication. It's probably not a bad thing but she does look lost. I do wonder if she'll ever be free of the medication. She looks so unhappy.

I've never heard anything bad about Madonna or Mary tbh. Everyone who works with Madonna in particular constantly praises her. I was shocked when Beyonce claimed Madge was one of the warmest people she ever met. Most of the Madonna hate seems to come from fans of other artists, not actually people within the industry. I think James Morrison once said she was rude to him but he had a cold and wanted to shake her hand. As Madonna has OCD its no surprise she didn't want to lol can't blame her for that.

Same goes for Mary. I've never seen anyone say a bad thing about her.

Mariah tho, I love her too but she does seem to have an issue with other female artists. There is a long list of people who claims she blanked them or was just rude.

Britney looks so unhappy. Also she just seems very controlled. Its a sad place and I often feel uncomfortable watching her thesedays.
