Drinking tea with spicy food

I put chillies in everything that can reasonably accommodate them. A few years ago I fell into the habit of drinking hot, strong tea while eating spicy food, and I wonder whether anyone else does it.

The reason that I drink tea with chillies is that the heat and astringency of the tea amplifies the chilli burn, so that the sip of tea unleashes a brief firework display in my brain. It's sort of like a more pleasurable version of being kicked in the face, wherein you get what I assume is a good slug of dopamine without suffering any damage.

I realise that this will all sound very weird and masochistic to some of you, but if you do love chillies I encourage you to give it a try. First work up a good mouth burn, and then take a mouthful of very hot, strong tea. If you're constructed in a similar way to me you should get some interesting brain chemistry going on for a few seconds.

I might have done that once unintentionally, as a child, drunk water to try to diminish the burn, did not go according to a plan I love spicy food, use spicy paprika and chilies, but that would be too much for me, enjoy though

Yes, but I need both mouth and tea to cool down otherwise it's just painful.

Masala tea, proper Indian Chai, is the best for what you describe.

I have drunk coffee in an Indian restaurant after my meal, and the effects were unintentional. Quite painful actually!

Hmm, the people that I've discussed this with in person have all thought I'm weird. Perhaps they're right!

The odd thing is that I don't go round adding ghost peppers to everything - I don't eat stupidly hot food, I just like hot drinks with it. I may have an unusual tongue.

I can eat very hot food (temperature wise), soups, tea, coffee, etc. As a child I was always the first one done with my soup, if I liked it, that is. As for your hobby, people do worse things for pleasure, this is okay if you ask me
