I agree that Somebody That I Used To Know was a genuinely excellent UK #1 and still surprises me that Gotye's single became so popular in the UK. At least that song had a real charm to it, something I personally find lacking in One Dance.

I think iTunes pre-orders ultimately killed off the singles chart. 2014 will always be the worst year for #1 singles as the majority of them wouldn't have gone anywhere near #1 without endless weeks of pre-order sales. I know music is subjective but, imo, the following definitely weren't worthy of being #1:

DVBBS & Borgeous feat. Tinie Tempah Tsunami (Jump)
5 Seconds Of Summer She Looks So Perfect
Aloe Blacc The Man
Calvin Harris Summer
Secondcity I Wanna Feel
Will.I.Am feat. Cody Wise It's My Birthday
Rixton Me And My Broken Heart
Cheryl Cole feat. Tinie Tempah Crazy Stupid Love
David Guetta feat. Sam Martin Lovers On The Sun
Jessie J, Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj Bang Bang
Cheryl Cole I Don't Care
Gareth Malone's All Star Choir Wake Me Up
Take That These Days

So there I present 13 #1s from 2014 that only got there because of an artificial inflated first week sale thanks to 2/3 months of pre-order sales. Drake spending 13 weeks at #1 will make up for all those non entities that topped the UK chart two years ago.

If the turnover of #1s could revert back to 2013, that would be brilliant. The genuinely popular songs could claim a few weeks at #1 but wouldn't prevent other popular songs from getting a couple of weeks at the top either. For the time being, we're gonna have more long running #1 singles until the pace of the Spotify charts speeds up.
