I've just spoken to my German friend who is a fanatical Germany supporter (and is usually very confident about their prospects) and she told me her expectations for Germany at this tournament are exactly nil. I think that's a widespread view in Germany
![]() Personally I think Germany will perform - they've messed around/experimented in friendlies - and even in qualifying – but they've got a great squad and they'll come good. If all goes to plan it'll be a France v Germany semi final, couldn't call that. |

It's not. I've been in Germany very recently and everyone I met is confident and thinks they'll win! Your friend is obviously very negative as clearly having "nil" expectations of the world champions and second favourites is just ridiculous! I mean, if they've got no chance, what chance have the other 22 (minus France) got?

Semi-finals is realistic just because everyone else (bar France) looks pretty terrible on paper, but semi-finals is not something Germany gets all excited about. After all, they're not England

My friend and parents actually live in Germany. No one is excited about this team.

Not sure you can say that "no one" is excited by the Germany team especially as they have so many good players. It seems that perhaps your friend isn't but that doesn't mean to say that everyone isn't.

Man this was spooky - in the office sweepstake for the 2014 World Cup, I got Belgium.
Did the office sweepstake for Euro 2016. Put my hand into the bag and who did I get? Belgium. |

Do you think Germanys defence will let them down as Antonio Rudiger is out of the tournament

Portugal have just thumped Estonia 7-0 in their final warm-up match. Ronaldo bagged a brace.

Spain losing to Georgia like that was bizarre. Game must have been played like an exhibition match so you'd expect Spain to be able to bang in a few goals while being under little pressure.

I know Estonia probably weren't giving it their all but the result does suggest as rumoured that Portugal are a good attacking side.

I'm looking forward to this tournament more than I have to any since WC 2010, which turned out to be pretty dire in the end.
May be because of a new look England, maybe because of all the home nations... |

Feels the same for me. I look forward to every World Cup and Euro but this one feels bigger, which surprises me as I wasn't too bothered about it being on the horizon not too long ago. The fact it's complete escapism from third division football and political wranglings with rugby clubs helps a lot too.

I'm usually super excited about the Euros/World Cup (and have been disappointed with every tournament after 2006) but this one I have no expectations for at all, mainly because Italy are in a state and I have little hope for them to even get out of the group. Maybe my extremely low expectations will produce an excellent tournament though

Do you live in england, Xela?
If so, don't you feel like you want to get behind them? |

If so, don't you feel like you want to get behind them? but I expected England to do OK in 2014 and we all know how that ended, so I'm being slightly more realistic this time...Funnily enough I always supported England even before I came to London because English teams (before 2010) were amazing to watch. They always had so much fight in them and fought to the (usually tearful) end. From 2010 onwards it's become more depressing though |

Getting so excited now.
Heading out to France on Sunday, with tickets to 5 matches. I think I'm probably irritating people with how excitable I've been this week. Haha. |
