Opening titles
Great choice from the Beeb, a version of "La Foule", a story of passion swept away in the midst of a surging crowd, made famous by Edith Piaf. It's very nice, if not quite up to the electrifying standards of the little sparrow herself. You'll probably be whistling it by about this time next week.
I haven't seen the ITV effort yet. Surely they're not going to go the Jean-Michel Jarre route again? At least Daft Punk this time, guys? |

I hate that ITV always get 2 of the 3 England group games. I would much rather watch the England games on the BBC.

ITV had my (idol/future husband) Fabio Cannavaro during the 2014 WC!! I will always love them for that!

England fans should be worried, they always lose when on ITV, or maybe they always just lose two of three groups games ?
Remember when only good teams could qualify for the Euros with just sixteen teams. Those were the days when Europe could proudly say our continental championships were basically the World Cup without Brazil and Argentina. This tournament will only get competitive at the semi-final stage when the big boys step up to the plate. |

Oh dear - hope this isn't going to start a trend particularly with the Wales game coming up!

The big nations look to be in a state on paper at least (bar France) |

And yet the Dutch still couldn't qualify.

We're going to see shocks galore during the group stages I would say. The trend was already set in the qualifiers with the likes of Germany, Spain and the Netherlands taking hammerings from lower ranked teams.

De Gea's involved in some kind of weird porn abuse story coming out. Makes the dentist chair look like CBeebies stuff.

Some news outlets are saying he's been sent home, but Guillem Balague reports that he's still with the team as normal (https://twitter.com/GuillemBalague/s...76134491467776)

And apparently it's press allegations of child porn. Yikes... |

It would be crazy to send him home. There is no replacement.

Update from El Confidencial - The police has investigated and found no proof to corroborate the accusations made by the protected witness. Shit timing for Spain and the player though.
The authorities in Spain aren’t considering to call De Gea, Isco or Muniain to testify or answer for any crimes unless proof is found. Considering that the accusations by the witness were investigated and no proof was found, players likely not to be implicated any further. |

Those were the days when Europe could proudly say our continental championships were basically the World Cup without Brazil and Argentina. This tournament will only get competitive at the semi-final stage when the big boys step up to the plate. When the tournament was expanded the argument was that it would open it up to the smaller teams and "dilute" its exclusivity. The ironic thing is that the tournament has expanded but all of the smallest nations to qualify did so through the old system The play-off system was the one to save the blushes of Ukraine and Sweden.

No it isn't. Allegation was that two then U21 players - one of them Iker Muniain - had sex with an underage prostitute provided by a porn director who is being investigated for child trafficking etc. The girl is also alleging that De Gea set up the arrangement but didn't take part.
But: Shit timing for Spain and the player though. |

Not if it's Guy Mowbray, He's terrible, but appears to the Beeb's number one for the foreseeable future. Given the choice I will take any ITV commentator over him. The annoying thing is that the BBC have other decent commentators.

Yes, I just read the updated version. The one before that was something about a "child porn scandal" but this sounds a lot less dramatic and De Gea's involvement appears to be marginal
ive heard it all now! |

Why does it matter if De Gea has been sent home (not downplaying the severity of the accusations); for Spain he isn't even 1st choice - Casillas is.
Can someone confirm if both Rooney and Eden Hazard will take the penalties for their national teams respectively? Thanks. |
