Jamie Vardy deserves to start he just cannt stop scoring!!! What more does he need to do to get a start?!?!?! ?!?!????
You could use a similar argument for Rashford, he is in great form recently.

What use has Sterling been when you say he has "had some use"??
Why should he keep his place and Kane not, as both have been very poor so far, and do not deserve to be rewarded for their poor performances.
Sterling has been good in picking the ball up in deep positions and motoring it up the wing. He's struggled in the final third but I think he deserves another chance tonight.

I'm going to the Italy Round of 16 game! Yay! I've decided to change my "no Euros" policy this year for Italy, since I'm definitely not going to the Russian WC in 2018

What's going on with the poor finishing in this tournament? Huge numbers of chances are being missed. I'd like to see some stats comparisons with past tournament.

And now it's a rematch of the last final.

Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown a Portuguese TV journalist's microphone into a lake.

What a great sportsman.

Not.

Which didn't end so well for Italy

Italy could not have had a worse draw

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has announced that he will retire from international football after Euro 2016. Depending on results, Sweden VS Belgium tonight could be his final game for Sweden.

Not sure if this has already been asked, but why is there no 3rd place play off as they have in the World Cup ?

Anyone know ?

It's not as if UEFA are averse to meaningless games......

Used to be up until 1980. It got scrapped from 1984 onwards.

I'm guessing that the reason FIFA has retained it is due to pressure from outside Europe.

You know your football. If i had to take a random guess i would have expected the answer to be 1992. 1992 was the last time it was an eight team (two groups of four) tournament wasn't it?

And to test your/anyone's knowledge further, did England ever get out of the group stage when it was an 8 team tournament? I think not but don't remember a single Euros prior to 1988.

Right looking at the way the line-up is for the next round, in my completely unscientific view, I am going for a Croatia v Germany final, with Croatia winning.

That now means neither will reach that far, now that I have backed them to do so!

Germany will have a very hard time getting past Spain or Italy in the quarterfinals. Those teams are Germany's nemesis. They would have MUCH preferred to have England in the quarterfinals.

Having said that, if Germany get to the semifinal, they could beat France (or England obviously).

I do agree with Croatia being in the final. Their path looks like a walk in the park. But then never discount Portugal

The winner of that section featuring Spain, Germany and Italy, will reach the final in my mind, I had a very hard time thinking about just who that might be, but in the end I went for Germany.

Getting to the final after playing so many tough games might just take its toll, when you consider the teams that Croatia might have to play, so they might be more fresh, and thus have that slight advantage.

Well that is what I think anyway!

Probably totally wrong!

I wouldn't write off France just yet. They didn't play well, but neither did most big teams. They look like they could step on the gas and show some amazing (individual) football, so they will be a tough nut to crack and everyone knows the French are an insanely proud nation, so playing them in France will never be easy

Losing to Croatia has made Spain look beatable again, but until they go back to the chokers I grew up laughing at I don't think I'd bet against them.

My wallet wants Germany, Croatia or Wales to win though, and if Arkadiusz Milik can score six against Switzerland along the way that'd be lovely.

I agree it won't be easy, but in their next match the Irish will be out for revenge against them, and that will not be an easy match for France I would imagine.

There are just so many different possibilities, that you could point a finger at any team and make a case for them (well maybe apart from England, but that is just my pessimistic nature towards the national team, having been let down over the years).

I can't see Ireland beating France. Their win against Italy was a freak result which only happened because Italy had nothing to play for, changed their whole team and were just rolling the ball around whereas Ireland played like they were prepared to die on that field. The match against the French will be very different and they simply aren't good enough individually to beat France.
