I agree it won't be easy, but in their next match the Irish will be out for revenge against them, and that will not be an easy match for France I would imagine.
It won't be easy but Ireland going for revenge won't be a factor in the knockout stages; everybody will be out to beat everybody else even without a historical backdrop.

For the Last 16:

BBC will be showing -
Switzerland v Poland
Wales v Northern Ireland (also on S4C)
Hungary v Belgium
Italy v Spain

ITV will be showing:
Croatia v Portugal
France v Rep Ireland
Germany v Slovakia
England v Iceland
That makes no sense whatsoever. BBC should be showing France surely? And Why are ITV getting all the England games?!

True, as I say you can make a case for practically every team left in the competition if one were so inclined, as there isn't yet one outstanding team that looks heads and shoulders above the rest.

ITV had 1st pick for the Last 16 with the BBC 2nd & 3rd picks so naturally ITV went for England. BBC then picked the Wales/NI game and the Italy/Spain game leaving ITV to take the France/RoI match as their 2nd choice (4th pick).

Good article on the lack of quality strikers and how managers are finding their way around this problem.

Where did you hear this? I have been trying to find something that would l me how ITV & BBC split up the games.

I assume they take it it turns to pick, but if ITV had 2 England Games in the group, I would have expected them to have had first choice for the groups, and would therefore assume that meant first choice in the 2nd round goes to the BBC.

There's a Euro 2016 thread in the Broadcasting forum. They know their stuff in there.

There is this link.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/lat...16-match-picks

It states. ITV will have first pick of the round of 16 while the BBC will have the first two picks of the quarter- finals. ITV have first pick of the semi-finals. Both BBC and ITV will show the final.

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

I had seen the thread in Broadcasting, but it is over 600 posts and I couldn't see any relevant posts.

Albania returned home to a heroes welcome.

They got a red-carpet from the plane; an open-top bus tour; a key to the city for the captain; a 1m euro team bonus and their squad's names etched into the national football stadium.

Imagine if they had got to the knockout stage!

For cashmoney, a Wales-Germany final is my preferred option now. For the actual football, Wales-Italy would be my pick.

If there was anything that would be the total opposite of how they were received by their supporters, then I expect that is how the England team will be greater by people at the airport.

I see now the tabloid showbiz reporters are enthralled by Deii Alli's super hot girlfriend. No doubt she'll be dumping him soon and moving up the celeb/money ladder!

Jan Vertonghen will miss Belgium's Quarter-Final against Wales after tearing ligaments during training. He's been ruled out for up to 8 weeks.

So no wins in 90mins from 3 group games and 2 knockout games, and just one win in extra time has got Portugal to the semi-finals. Doesnt seem right. So theoretically someone can go all the way and lift the trophy having never won a single match of football in a 24 team 6 group comp.

Well, no... they just won against Croatia and Poland and would have to win another 2 games.

What makes this format unfair is the seeding which made it better for teams to come second or third in certain groups than winning them.

France, Italy and Germany all won their groups. Yet they have to play each other, whereas Poland, Belgium and Portugal can have the much easier route to the final.

That can happen in a Cup competition, though. Theoretically you could win the FA Cup by just winning a penalty shoot-out every round.

I have Giroud each way in the goal-scoring stakes. Disappointed he was subbed but he is certainly back in the mix now.
