Nah its the lifestyle.

He's got young kids, bit irresponsible to be morbidity obese.

In a week when a Rolling Stone wrinkly had a kid in his late seventies, let's not be critical of Dick. Having seen all three episodes now, I want to retract an earlier post where I said that Dick and Angel were probably just a made-for-reality-television couple. That is clearly not the case, they seem genuinely happy and the kids will have a great upbringing there.

Normandie, our multi-quote forum secretary will no doubt find my offending post.......

I enjoyed it and wish them well

Straw Bridgedick is on BBC4 at 8pm tonight for those of us that haven't had enough of the old fool.

Nice and calming programme to watch after the dramatics of Chilcott.

I thought Dick was less annoying than he was in the chateau programme. Perhaps because his Mrs wasn't there.

New series on Sunday at 8pm.

I wonder how Dick and Angel are managing in that sprawling chateau.

Ahhh, good old Tricky Dicky, the randy old rogue. This show is fun, it reminds of a "A Place in France" with a kind of English scrounger version of Dick called Nigel, trying to start a new life in France on the cheap and on the French welfare state.

I am sure Dicky is above such things ?

I couldn't find a thread about Christmas at the Chateau so I have resurrected this one.

We've just watched this and it was a right load of old tosh. Does anyone know how much that lift cost? Did anyone actually watch this series?

Yes weve been following it- missed this last one though

Go and download it from All4, and have a look at the lift.

Yes. Angel flouncing around vandalising old books by putting two pens and a lipstick inside and calling them "crackers" was a particular highlight of this series for me.

I'd be interested to know the thought-process in how she arrives at occasionally (very occasionally) donning her blue overalls as opposed to parading around in the curtains from a tart's boudoir as she prints off colour laserprints, slaps them back-to-front on rotting wood and calls them "gifts".

And who will she find to do her grunt-work once Dick is filling an early grave?

Tbf, I'm surprised the two of them are still together.

Their big family Christmas seemed to have a lot of family missing as well, no sign of James. Incidentally, which Christmas was it? Last year? Or did they film this years Christmas dinner early?

Whilst it was a major achievement to get the lift installed, it DOES look anachronistically wrong! I guess getting a vintage looking one was not an option but I think I might have tried to lessen the modern look of the lift if poss.

I know it harks back to the previous series of this programme, but I was somewhat saddened not to see James (his son) at the wedding. Was he there? If not, any reason why? They got on so well in The Hungry Sailors (which I loved). I do hope they haven't fallen out because of Dick's new wife....

I notice Dick didn't try the lift. Would it even take his weight or would his belly not even make it through the door?

That's a bit cruel! He did his measurements. When he helped to raise the lift vertically I did wonder about the toll on his heart that such a gigantic effort as that would take on him. He can turn his hand to so many skills....gotta admire him!

I've really enjoyed these programmes.

Why so much hate for this couple? I don't get it at all. They are eccentric but seem like thoroughly decent folk.

I came across this recently by accident, and have since caught up on All4. I'm a fan of Dick Strawbridge from his Scrapheap Challenge days. Angel is a bit of a character, but they seem well suited to each other!

I'm really hoping the show continues on and off. They certainly have enough renovation work to keep going for years.

I don't understand it either...maybe jealousy? They are fascinating, accomplished people!
Great programme!

And then saying "everyone will get a surprise when they open them"

but when at the Xmas table she told everybody what they were, before they opened them

I have to say that I and the wife both like them as a couple. We also enjoy the programs.

Can't see why such negativity towards them.

Yes this has been said before by others and I replied, as I will do again here, that I think it is probably jealousy/envy!! They are a very talented, creative couple!!
