Delight Mobile: Cannot send SMS to EE
Mark C
07-06-2016
Just ported my father's Giffgaff number to Delight.

All is OK, except SMS'es sent from it to my EE number don't arrive (nor does any delivery
report come back). Tried sending to a Three number, and a Virgin one, and it's fine (and also get delivery report). I can SMS the Delight SIM from my EE number fine too.
The 'failed' SMS'es are also coming off the credit, (to add insult....)

I can call my phone from it, that works, checked my blocked numbers settings etc (it was all working two days ago from GiffGaff though)

What's gone wrong ? SMS message centre settings checked etc. Very annoying, because guess who my dad SMS'es the most !

How long has it been? there can be a propagation lag it might still be updating.

However I generally dont choose mvnos for this reason, I should imagine it'll be fun trying to get it fixed if it still doesn't work in a day or so.

Port happened today, so perhaps I'm being a bit overkeen, yes, it might be a challange to get fixed. It'll probably be less hassle to chuck away the SIM, and just get a new number, only about 4 people to inform !

Is your EE number perhaps in one of the relatively new 073/074 ranges? It might be that Delight haven't programmed their switches appropriately.

I've had the number since August 1999 !!!! Ported from Voda to EE in 2013

.....and it's not a Delight to EE thing, because I've just tried sending to a couple of other EE numbers, and all is fine

The good news is you're not the only one to have this sort of problem.

I work in telecoms, I ported a number over to Delight many months ago to trial them. I quickly observed problems with SMS, very similar to yours.

I also observed that post dial delay (how long it takes for progress when you make a call) was quiet large. They appear to use cheap / poor quality carriers.

I popped my SIM in the bin as their support was rather poor

Yes, I tried ringing them, but after 15 mins on hold gave up the will to live.

Emailed them, who knows if anyone will even read the mail, let alone help..
I'll look for another option, I can feel myself going back to GiffGaff at this rate

It's a shame it's my dad's favourite 10 year old Sony k750, otherwise I'd go with Three

Not for low use. 40p min and 15p a text, better off going back to GG ?

Those are ‘out of allowance’ rates as I don’t think Life do PAYG.

I’ve got a 30 day roller going with them that’s £4-95p per 30 days and I get 600 minutes, 5000 texts and 500 Mb so can’t imagine getting any out of allowances charges.

With 500MB I think I'd get them after a few days, but I suppose everyone's different. You may find that they make up for the charges in other ways like 0845 etc

I still don't like minor MVNOs as you always run the risk of them going out of business, shutting down or potentially having big hassles if there's a network problem as you have to go to the reseller for support, and they don't have the same level of support as the 'real' networks.

ASDA mobile, Tesco Mobile (lite tariff) and Talk Mobile all offer low cost 2G calls / texts.
I'd suggest picking one of those and ordering a sim online.

ASDA uses EE (like delight), Tesco uses O2 like Giffgaff and Talk Mobile uses Vodafone.

Giffgaff is not very cheap for PAYG and delight/vectone are flaky.

Delight never bothered to answer my email regarding the non delivery of texts, so I attempted to get a PAC. Only took 10 mins on hold, (although a previous attempt cut me off after 6 mins on hold) They SMS'd it to me straight away. Result !

I've ordered SIMs from Asda and Talk Mobile. TM look good with the flat rate 10p for up to 60 mins call, but I note reviews indicate lousy CS for both networks. Tescos too expensive for calls (but you get what you pay for)

I have £4.63 of credit left on Delight, where's there a charity I can SMS for 4 quid and dump the unused credit before I port ?

I have just spoken to EE. I am experiencing the same problem of intermittent SMS messages arriving. Apparently the problem lies at Vodafone's end with numbers beginning with 0797 since this is where this number was created before I moved to over to EE.
What happens is that the SMS is sent and because it is 0797 it is sent to Vodafone who then send it to EE for delivery but that is not happening. At the moment it is a priority case but there is no time frame for fixing it.
