My5 Minimum OS Requirements Android
Hi All this isn't a question as such the requirements for Android is 4.4.4 Kitkat and above
as stated on my 5 website so why is it working on my phone Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini which is stuck on OS version 4.4.2?? And yet on my other device which is the Digisender smart tv media box which is running Android 4.2.2 there is no install button for My5 App? could it be because my phone is 4.4.X so infact it does meet the requirements set out by My5 even though 4.4.2 is a different version to 4.4.4? I really do need to get the service working on my Digisender smart tv box have tried visting directly the My5 website on this device and can do everything like search for a video to play but nothing happens when clicking on a video. My5 (website) does apparenty use Flash codec for it's videos on it's website, how ever Flash for Android devices has been withdrawn over 2 years ago. Any ideas please? TIA

A possible workaround is to install ES file explorer and ES task manager on phone with my5 installed and create a backup of app (creates an apk file).
Then take apk file and sideload on new phone. I used to have to do that with older demand 5 whe installer insisted device was not compatible but worked fine when side loaded. |

If there is a app to convert flash to say for eg HTML5 like you tube uses then I would probably use that route. I have tried dowloading Opera for Android that will support flash but that doesn't make any difference so uninstalled that app. Just wish sites like catchuptv.co.uk would bring back the 7 day catch up service they used to provide but there is some licening agreement that now bans the 7 day catch up feature!!! |

Have you tried contacting Five to get an answer from them?

I have contacted five about this and they didn't offer any help apart from confiming that their website does use the flash codec. They seriously need to consider switching to the new industry standard-HTML5 I also spoke with the manufacturer of the smart media box who is a developer of the box. this is what they said they developed a app to test the various on demand tv services and ITV and Channel 5 both use flash codecs well I use the ITV Hub app
with no problems so it cant be using flash. So no real need to try the other route by going directly to the ITV Hub via the website. As the App does work, but can any one confirm if indeed going via the website and not the App it actually uses flash I know channel 5 does. I still don't understand why it My5 App works on my phone when clearly the spec on my phone doesn't meets the minimum OS requirements which is version 4.4.4 + very strange!!. |
