Used to live right near an M&S and would sometimes get sandwiches from there. You mentioned doorstop ones - their doorstop chicken with sage and onion stuffing ones were amazing. Simple filling and all, but they put tons in and it's a winning combo. I think that either won sandwich of the year or they did as a retailer at around the time I used to get them, I remember there being some mention of it on the packaging.

Home made if i'm at home. If at work i will go to a sandwich bar and get one. I would make my own to take in but i only want a sandwich once or twice a week, and i will want different things in it each time.

Aldi make pretty good sandwiches for around £1.60/1.70. Nice quality bread, lots of filling, miles better than what you get at Asda or Tesco, and theirs probably cost more too.

In general I am not a sandwich fan

with shop bought usually the bread is wet and veggie choices are limited

Home made, by the wife chained by her ankle to the cooker...

Not really, home made by myself because I can make a mean sandwich.

Occasionally I will buy a sandwich, but most of them are rather bland.

I usually make my own.
Cheese and onion with sweet piccalilli instead of butter on soya and linseed bread.

Bought ones I find are:

To wet.
To expensive
Cheap margarine.
Lettuce tinged with horrible slimmy brown edges
Most of them have mayo on ( which I don't like)
Don't know who made them and the cleaness of the place.

Quite. I'd love to have "interesting" sandwiches every day, but I refuse to buy a kilo of Rocket leaves to make ONE sandwich, and then throw the rest of it away.
In a sense, it's more economical to buy shop-bought stuff at a huge mark-up when it comes to Rocket Salad and Prawns than to buy the ingredients on a whim and have to eat exactly that thing for the next six days.

Anyone tried the Poundland ones yet? They don't look very appetising but once read someone on a forum, this one I think, saying they're actually quite nice for a quid.

I rarely buy ready made ones from shops....they just don't do the sort of fillings I like. Chunky corned beef and piccalilli are my favourite.

Tough to get decent bought ones these days. Not enough butter on is one annoyance. Not good.

Homemade ... I don't like cold sandwiches and the shop bought ones smell and taste like the plastic container they come in nine times out of ten. I don't like the things they spread on the bread either ... they never taste like homemade .. they taste synthetic. Plus salt content etc is often way too high.

You should probably avoid all prepacked convenience food if that's the case.

I love a good sandwich but too much bread triggers my IBS so I have to limit myself

A separate sachet of Mayo would probably cost more to produce and the sandwich would be more expensive as a result.

I do, when I can

The thought of people with dirty finger nails making sandwiches. I know they are supposed to wear disposable gloves,but do they keep them on.
I have had food poisioning once due to food contamination and I do not wish to go down that dreadful path again.

Mostly home made. There are a couple of places near where I work that will make a sandwich for you, and occasionally I'll have ham and tomato from there. Cost £2.20, they make it to my instruction (eg without butter or lettuce), and it's fresh. I wouldn't want to make it myself at home and then bring it in for lunch, because I don't have time in the morning and by lunch time it wouldn't be as nice.

Home made all the way, I am fussy with sandwiches, you never know where the makers hands have been, plus cost, a loaf etc costs what couple of quid, shop bought sandwich £3+ for 1 sandwich.

At home - home made.
Travelling on the motorbike - shop bought. The packaging keeps them together.

I like both.

My favourite sandwich is the good ol' fashioned egg salad sandwich. I make these myself as I'm fussy about the egg salad itself and I refuse to eat it on anything other than fresh sliced whole wheat bread. Minimal spread of margarine on one slice of the bread.

Toast is a no-no.

For submarine sandwiches, though, certain local restaurants' subs are so much better than I could ever create myself. I like steak and mushroom subs with slaw, onions and dressing. Mmm...what am I doing in this discussion?

I might start feeling hungry!
