Tesco will give you £3 per month off your bill if you install an app that puts adverts on your lock screen. This will only work on Android devices and im not sure Apple would approve of such an app but you never know.

Three may stop ads but only until such time that it decides to insert its own.

Or charge someone to insert theirs. I imagine that's the plan.
Take all the other things in the past, like suspect competition phone lines (premium rate) and those quiz channels etc. Everyone knew they were dodgy. Everyone involved knew they'd be banned eventually, but it didn't stop people riding the wave and cashing in for as long as they could. More recently it was legal highs. I am not suggesting any link, other than people will always find ways to make money that are questionable in moral terms. And I can see more companies trying to replace ads that you or I might have on a site/blog to fund its existence, and putting on their own.. and then pretending that it's done to save the consumer money (and thus the consumer will lap it up). I think much the same about Uber. It sells itself as this consumer champion, and consumers obviously love the convenience, without many people realising the implications to the whole industry in the long run. |

Are people that hard up for £3, bloody hell it's what... A pint of beer? And like others say it'll likely get abused by advertisers that do the usual tricks "we detected 5 viruses on your device, click here to scan" where it takes you to some scam virus product.

In any case these ads aren't intrusive. They are just on your lock screen when you wake up the phone. One swipe and they're gone. I've got a Kindle Fire tablet that has the same thing. It takes literally a fraction of a second to get rid of the ad and carry on as normal. |
