Game came alive in the second half. An absolute belter to win it.

Romania look decent, though, I expect them to progress to the knockout stage.

I think the Premier League players will win it for France

To be fair, I thought Pogba lived up to his reputation in the first half. Some of stuff he did was outstanding. I was a bit disappointed with Griezman though

france are too dodgy at the back... if their attack has an off day they will go out.

Defensively, I thought they were excellent on the whole; they had some dodgy moments in the first half but soaked up what France threw at them in the second with relative comfort.

You do wonder where their goals are going to come from, though, if Stancu is as off-target as he was tonight.

Lets hope the standards of referees are way better than this bunch.

I'm not so sure. They didn't look like anything special and their defense look's like a disaster waiting to happen, Evra's tackle and some dodgy clearances from the CB's prove that.

I think Pogba had a couple of dodgy moments as well as good ones. Agree about Griezman though.

Quite enjoying Bilic on the punditry panel.

Spain or Germany will knock them out. That defense won't be good enough to keep them out.

Shame the Europeans lost.

Didn't look great to me. Looked scared sh1tless whenever Romania attacked. Shame that didn't happen much.

Don't go to Bartoli, for the love of god.

Kante and Payet were two of Frances best players tonight

A year ago they could not get near the France squad

And now they are the first players on the team sheet

Brilliant hit from Payet to win that. I'll take an Alli winner like that tomorrow for England please.

ITV should be banned from ever covering football again. opening game of the tournament, and they couldn't even find time to show the opening two goals post match, nevermind discuss them.

whats to discuss?

ive seen the winning goal, it was a beautiful strike.

What on earth can a pundit add?

Clough was right, there is no need for pundits, just show the football.

I dont think ITV care about football as they used to. Years ago they always made a big deal about the World Cup and the Euros but now they just treat it as a normal tournament. I mean what is that theme tune all about. Are you saying they could not be asked to create their own theme tune instead of using somebody elses and who hired Mark Pougatch. He makes Adrian Childs seem like Des Lynam, What was wrong with Matt Smith he was a good presenter. At least he got along with Ian Wright

ITV and BBC have for a long time used established tunes for their football tournament title sequences. South Africa is the last time I remember either of them using a tune that I didn't recognise, and that might just be me. They did use original compositions back in the 80s, but since then it's mostly been adaptations of tunes associated with the host country (or one of the host countries.)

I'm watching the highlights on BBC and the commentators thought that Romania shouldn't have had a penalty and the player went down easily..........what the hell are they talking about ?

Lol have you seen Germany's defence?

France looked very good to me. The depth of their squad is insane. This was the opening game against a very well-organised and well-prepared Romania team under extreme pressure against the backdrop of the attacks a year ago. This was a strong performance from France. I'm impressed

How was this a "terrific game" described by many of the pundits? It was an average-to-good game with one moment of brilliance.

Seems we're going to be littered with ridiculous hyperbole throughout this tournament just like we were in the last WC.

Moan moan moan

It wasn't a terrific game, but it was better than I expected and better than the usual opening games and the referee was very good - so I'm happy

I actually thought the ITV commentary was much better than BBC tonight
