Arguably Hounds Of Love isn't it - but I'm persuaded sometimes by The Sensual World or the more upbeat The Red Shoes and sometimes Never For Ever.

Yay! We have a reply! Actually I wasn't sure of much love but yes, Never For Ever might make my top three.

The Dreaming

Hounds Of Love

The Sensual World
This is interesting as The Dreaming is one I never felt anything for and it probably wouldn't fare well up against the others if this were a poll but but I am pleased to see someone rank it highly.

As a retrospective The Whole Story is of course not even half the story and her albums are... patchy?

Elaboration needed here - I'd say pretty much her albums are seamless.

The Dreaming

Hounds Of Love

The Sensual World
Snap!

I like the Red Shoes too although I know it's not popular in KB fandom.

The Dreaming. Love it. I think its her most adventurous and innovative sounding album.

Probably Houds of Love but 50 Words for Snow and The Red Shoes are convincing challengers.

For me it has to be Hounds of Love. Here's how I rank her albums:

1. Hounds of Love
2. Aerial
3. The Dreaming
4. Never for Ever
5. The Sensual World
6. The Kick Inside
7. 50 Words for Snow
8. The Red Shoes
9. Director's Cut
10. Lionheart

Hearing the majority of Hounds of Love live, as well as A Sky of Honey, two years ago is something I'll never forget. Sitting 6 rows away from my hero, oh Kate <3

The textures and sounds in The Dreaming are incredible, and I adore the overall sound of Aerial. I would love to sit on top of a cliff on a hot summer day looking out to sea and listen to A Sky of Honey in full.

I'd say Hounds of Love simply for The Ninth Wave B-side of the album which is a work of genius

I thought The Dreaming would be virtually everyone's favourite - imagine it would be top of most diehard fan's list. Just a bizarre but astounding masterpiece. So ahead of its time.

The Red Shoes is the one album that I find unlistenable, but that may be down to the horribly dated instrumentation and production.

Really surprised to see so much adoration.

I'm giving it an airing tomorrow just to try again.

I've never had any time for Aerial. I like the title track and a few things here and there but, hmm, it might fit the patchy tag mentioned by someone upthread.

And so late last evening I lay down to listen to The Dreaming for the first time really since it all began. At that time I probably liked it because it was there, it was all there was - the latest album by her.

The first thing I considered hearing Sat In Your Lap was that I thought it was a strange choice for the opener.

Then, having listened to all ten songs I realised that I only liked four of them particularly and so I was reliving it all again, sensing the reasons why I've never rated this album very much.

The songs I like are the title track, Pull Out The Pin, Sat In Your Lap and All Of Love.

I'd say that The Dreaming is a poor man's Hounds Of Love. There are some similarities in that both have that Irish music influence, heard in Night Of The Swallow and The Dreaming and Jig Of Life but if I compare the two then I find it impossible to find the starting point at which one could say that this holds a torch to Hounds Of Love.

Even if you discounted The Ninth Wave then song to song, Hounds Of Love for me walks all over The Dreaming.

I think maybe it also is a case of whether you prefer early or late(r) Kate.
