If I recall correctly the word 'despite' wasn't used though.

Why are you mentioning an age? Why can't you explain who Natalie is without resorting to ageism? Jesus Christ!

(In case there's any confusion, I'm being very sarcastic.)

Jayne is the older women, she's white and is friends with the Chelsea bloke, who happens to be a gentleman of colour.

It was completely in context. She was unhappy that the home or wherever had put that her mother was unhappy with black people because it wasn't the case and she has other black carers without problem. Natalie is trying to cause an issue. If Laura is given a warning for this I will not be happy. She did nothing wrong. I'm glad Ryan defended Laura.

Natalie was annoyed (quite justifiably) because Jayne mentioned that her carers were black and from Nigeria, and they were 'lovely' in a very patronising manner. The implication being that this would be some sort of surprise, hence Natalie's "we're not aliens' comment.

Well said.

I very much doubt that she will. She'll probably take the line that all of those that booed are also racist.

Her mother had been abused by a carer who happened to be black. As a result, it had gone on her care notes that she had a problem with black people. Jayne was angry about that, because her mother would never have a problem with black people generally, she had a problem with a single carer who did badly, and by chance happened to be black. If the carer hadn't been black, her mother would have had just as much a problem with that person - and as proof, she brings up the fact that there is another black carer that her mother gets on really well with.

The point of that conversation was not Jayne's opinion of black people, it was about her indignation that her mother had been branded as racist when she hadn't been. It is impossible to talk about that without mentioning that the abusive carer was black. Natalie just jumped on the defensive. I can't believe there is even any debate around this.”

True, but why consider the 'niceness' of the Nigerian carer worthy of being mentioned in the first place?

Natalie overreacted big time. She admitted herself in the DR that she didn't hear the whole conversation, but it didn't stop her from jumping to conclusions.

The conversation was about racism. Andrew had used the word black first because his mother is black and was talking about racism she and his white father had received. Jayne then started talking about her mother being accused of 'not getting along with black people' because she had been abused by carers, who happened to be black.

I think because she had mentioned that her mother's carers were black and had abused her, she didn't want ignorant people to call her racist and claim she was saying all black carers are abusive. Imagine the meltdown on here if she hadn't said that about the nice carers.
