Charged fro ending my contract early despite the 'price hike' get out clause

"What you'll pay
You'll need to pay £9.33 for stopping your BT services. This includes:

Charges for ending your contract early - Because your service has stopped before the end of your contract, you'll need to pay £9.33 for the remaining months."

Today had plusnet turned on - and received the above from bt

The reason why I moved to plusnet was because bt are now too expensive - I was under the impression you could get out if you were unhappy with the price hike?

£9.33 is not alot - must of had 2 weeks left on my contract but I don't want these tosspots getting away with cheaky punches to the stomach on your way out!

Did you call BT and tell them you were leaving due to the price increases? BT won't know unless you tell them. It tells you on the email/letter about the price increases to call if you want out.

If you didn't then the charges are raised automatically and applied to your final bill.

Watch them. If you don't pay it, that bill will soon rocket to around £500. You may have to write repeated warning letters because with Indian Telecom it's like banging your head against a brick wall.

As others have said you CANNOT just leave BT early without expecting them to charge unless you inform them that the price increase is the reason. They were going to charge me ~£5 in similar circumstances (their price rise last autumn) until I phoned them!

Not surprised, my contract is up but BT told me I'd renewed until 2017, which I haven't, so I'm expecting a charge from them as well, tha's why I'm leaving in the first place, they're totally clueless.
