Had this issue for a few weeks now, I'm unable to make out the entire lyrics to a song, and I've signed up to this forum in hopes that some of you guys will give useful input, so far all I've seen is appreciation threads and haven't found many actual enquiries, such as the one I myself present to you folks, so I don't know how this will be taken.

The song is "Darling I'll Go" by "The Moovers" and it's utterly incredible, however was lifted off of a badly preserved acetate so there is quite a lot of background noise. You can find it on-line however I find it appropriate that with a song like this I ought to provide you guys with high quality versions, as it will make a difference.

I've done a lot of the work but there are still phrases that are beyond me, the dashes signify missing lyrics, and the brackets in "most" cases indicate MALE backing vocals and , so I am not asking for the female vocals, I'd very much like to know what you guys think the lead singer is saying in some of the lines, and also the male backing vocals, because the female backing vocals overlap the lead singer in most cases and it is very easy to make them out.

Of course you can tell when the last words rhyme/ half rhyme, and you may think this makes your job easier however it's still incredibly difficult. Post any solid suggestions below, please don't give me half guesses or anything vague because I've gotten enough of that from my own pondering.

Anything that will complete one of the incomplete lines, or a word that you can definitely make out being said, or even any mistakes I've personally made, although I doubt it.

List everything, I really need help on this one!

Had a listen to it (on Youtube) an it sounds like "Darling I'll go where you lead me "
That makes more sense to me than "leave me" as I think he says something about taking me by the hand.
If I find the lyrics anywhere I'll post them.

Can't find the lyrics anywhere and I haven't got time to go through it all yet, and it's "lead me" throughout, but this bit is:

Your love is just ---- something special darlin'
[And my heart can't live without it]

Well RoseAnne thanks a whole bunch for your input, however if you're gonna revisit this song I suggest you pick up one of the high quality versions. Thanks to you I now know that it's in fact lead me, so at the start it's:

(pretty much everywhere it's gonna be "where you lead me" however I think it might be "when" on this fourth line because as you can see it might make more sense)

Also onto the second observation you made, forgive me if my ear does not hear "Darlin'", and in regards to the word "special" you suggested, it does sound like it starts with "sp" even though that could be the sound of two words, one ending with "s" and another starting with "p". I just don't believe that the word that's meant to fit in there is long enough to be "special".


Does it not sound more like he's saying:

Your love is just as ---- 'bout it
or:
Your love is just this pretty -----

Because "just this" does sound a bit like how they'd pronounce something "sumthin'", too.

What I found is that if you listen out for the phrase you believe it is, it is very easy to tell if you're right or not. And once you've got the right answer you'd definitely hear it in the song, sorry that I disagree with you, I'd very much like it if we were on the same side for this discussion, however I simply do not hear what you hear in regards to that second input.

But hey we've already made progress, for some time I genuinely believed that I wouldn't even get one reply as my thread was overshadowed by ones far more popular. It would mean a lot to me if you found the time to revisit this song and give any more input, regarding the other blanks, and perhaps more input on what you've said so far that I disagreed with, as I hope you know your help is rather invaluable at this point.

Last thing, because you corrected "leave" to "lead", do you think that this line may be different to what I said it was, too?
"You can leave me but you'll never ----" it actually sounds like the entire phrase is:

"You can lead me but don't ever ---"

Because now I know the man singing loves this woman and doesn't want her to leave (like I originally thought) this lead me to make some changes, and created a few more blanks too I believe.

I've put some bits in bold as far as I can tell. I think that's the best I can do now!

Wow, I must say you sure are good at this, many of your additions are definitely correct word for word, and I can only applaud you for your efforts, and respect that you took the time to do this, I'm sure it must have taken a few listens to get all that !

This unisssued song is very obscure, and is from a compilation made by The Numero Group, called "The Deep City Label", a small record label in the mid 1960s, I am collecting various pieces information in regards to this record label, like band artists, records, liner notes, articles and lyrics, as part of an archive I am assembling. I have set the bar very high for myself in terms of quality and accuracy of content, I guess one could say that it is an obsessive hobby of mine.

However regardless of all that, I have to sincerely thank you for your input, I have been independent in my work up until very recently, my inability to get the lyrics to this song had really stumped me and stopped me from progressing for a good two weeks now, and whilst I am still not finished, a majority of your input was SPOT ON and considering that you're the only person who took the time to reply, I'm rather grateful. I'll be taking this and continuing on other music forums in the hope that others with a good ear like you can help me to complete it, but thanks to you there is a lot less work.

If you're certain there is nothing more you can make out, then you don't have to stick around to witness this thread get buried, however if you decide to give the song a few more listens, I'll be monitoring this thread for perhaps another day so I'll see anything else you write.

Your line about "that love divine" sure sounds good however the first couple of words in that line are certainly not "when you're" and sound a lot more like "look how", so any correction on that line is appreciated.

Also your input in "wherever it is I'll go" appears a little off, it sounds like there are words (perhaps two of them) before the word "wherever", so I am unsure whether that's as accurate as the current line I have written in there.

Thankyou for the compliment Andrei. I have been a fan of pop music and music in general since I was very young (which is a long,long time ago!) and followed the charts religiously up to recently. I have been told I have a good ear for music so all this has probably helped me help you!

I will have a few more listens over the weekend but once you have what you think are the words in your head it's hard to hear differently!

I had a look for the lyrics for this song on the internet but nothing, and there seems to be no composer credited either!
