4K, now that should improve the 720p NowTV streaming service.

Lets hope they include a 50Hz output option on this new box or Freeview is going to look pretty crappy

So thats why the current box is half price. Picked up one with two month movies pass for £13.99 the other day. Mind you this new box may be tempting. I have a sky box but am trying to cut the bill down. So have cancelled movies hence why I have bought a Now tv box. The PQ is not too bad. Shame there is no 5.1 sound though. I stay with sky because I like the Sky plus feature so this new box may tempt people to drop sky. So are Sky not shooting themselves in the foot?

I will get the new Now TV box even I do live in Ireland as I cancelled Sky TV in March 2016 for Now TV

New Now TV box will give me Saorview, Now TV, All4 and Sky Store alongside Freesat Freetime+

Yes, it will be a waste of time if it only supports 60Hz.

Will it have a freeview tunner, or will the freeview be streamed?

I believe it will have a Freeview tuner.

Does this mean you can record Freeview through an outdoor tv aerial through this new now tv box

The rumours don't provide that sort of information.

It might be able to record things, or it might not.

I think it will be the start of a move towards a YouView type box. Initially it could be like the non-recording BT box with a later move towards a more fully featured unit, something more akin to a Humax box YouView.

Pure speculation though.

We'll find out in a couple of days but my guess would be if it does have recording abilities it'll be via a USB port so you can plug in your own storage medium, adding a hard drive to the box will add extra cost and mark a complete departure from Sky's cheap as chips philosophy to Now TV boxes.

My expectation would be a YouView type scenario, without a recording facility, but with the TV Guide type functionality where you can go back and view previous programming via on demand players.

I'd also expect Now TV channels delivered by DTT and via streaming to be merged in the EPG as well. Potentially also using a version of Sky's channel numbering structure too.

Just guesswork though..!

It's a low cost service aimed at those users who don't want full fat pay TV , it will not have a HDD.

I need to get another older box then just in case they take them off sale, I do not want a Now Tv box with a tuner in.

It would be the end of Sky TV as we know it. This is why we will never see NowTV App on Freesat PVRs.

That is the same view why for many years sky news was not on freesat. It did finally appear.

I predict the Now TV app will appear on freesat as Sky paid too much money for live football rights

I think that is very, very, very unlikely.

I think it'll just be a rebadged roku4.

Freesat has relaxed the rules that forbade any paid sports from being on their boxes, so that hurdle isn't there anymore.

you can get Now TV combo without Sky Broadband

In the UK, BT Broadband customers should cancel BT TV for the Now TV combo but keep BT Broadband for BT Sport.

I will buy it here here in the Republic of Ireland for Saorview with Now TV and Sky Store

You can't record the freeview channels

The Combo broadband idea is interesting, although it seems the box is pretty much the same but with a tuner added and the usb enabled for media playback (which will hopefully be made available on the older black boxes)

No 4K support either.
