Obstruction is an indirect free kick so it wasn;t a penalty.

Martin Skrtel was trying to prevent the Wales player getting to the ball at all costs, yes.
However that is not the same as saying it was a deliberate elbow.

The main concern I have for the Welsh in this second half is how well they'll be able to maintain their pressing and general work-rate of the first in what looks like quite energy-sapping conditions.

If they hold onto this win, they'll pretty much be in the second round.

Are you deliberately being obtuse?.

He deliberately took the Welsh player out, to say otherwise is stupid.

You are the only one here who sees his assault as anything other than what it CLEARLY was, a blatant foul.

He fouled the player deliberately.
That is not the same as saying he deliberately elbowed him.

I wonder how those same fans view Fellaini or Costa...”

Skrtel, Fellaini, Costa, all from the same cloth, vicious.

No, I don't believe he's a thug. But there's on point trying to convince you.

Really? You, of all people? Accusing me of club bias?

It's not club bias. I'm basing it on the fact that I've seen him a lot more than you and feel I'm in a better position to judge him than you. You say he doesn't know how to defend, based on what? The few times you've seen him? A reputation? Maybe the few times he's played this season where he has been poor? He's not the best but he's hardly poor, he does know how to defend.

I could have accused you of being biased in my initial reply to you but you'd have only got upset as you usually do.

People in glass houses and all that...”

How on earth can you accuse me of bias over calling out a player elbowing someone in the throat region??

There is no bias there in saying that was a foul, and should have been a penalty, and a red card, as no matter who the player is, that is what should have happened.

Only those that are defending him and his actions are showing bias.

Took the words out of my mouth. I don't think Wales can keep this up for 90 minutes which is why I think they need another goal to take the wind out of Slovakia's sails and provide a nice cushion.

I didn't. I said I could have accused you, suggesting that you calling him a thug or saying he doesn't know how to defend is down to you being one of the most biased posters in this forum, no matter how often you like to say otherwise.

I'm not defending his actions. Show where I've defended what he did here. You'll find I haven't. You're replying to something I haven't said.

I said it was bad, and he should have been sent off.

What I'm objecting to is calling him a thug, and you saying he always does it because he doesn't know how to defend. I'm not defending this particular incident.

You have some nerve accusing me of club bias.

I've watched it several times, whether you are biased towards the player or not to say he did anything other than deliberately elbow the Welsh guy shows crass idiocy of the highest order.

I will leave it at that.

was about to say the same thing... hoping he gets more first team football next season for us rather than another loan side.

I am a fair poster when it needs to be fair, if a United player does something wrong, I will call them out on it, and not defend them.
I have no issues with doing so.

Skrtel is not exactly an angel is he, come on even you must admit that?
His defending style is to pull shirts, and to generally get away with as much fouling as possible without the referee seeing him doing so, that is not how to defend as I know the word to mean.

I must only person in the UK that doesn't rate Ashley Williams . That's twice already he's tried playing them offside and been lucky to get away with it . In the first half for their dangerous break away , when Bale lost possession and the striker burst through the Welsh defence .... It was Williams who ran towards him but turned his back completely and let the guy skip past him . I also thought he got off lightly a few weeks back when he handed Leicester their first goal in that absolutely crucial premier league match.
