Funny that Rooney actually has a good international tournament game which has been rare since Euro 2004 and the manager goes and takes him off too early. Couldn't make this stuff up.

I agree - I think Rooney was shattered and it was a logical substitution to make. Milner for Sterling was also logical put Milner wasn't up to the job.

Even though this doesn't have a question mark, I assume you mean is it likely rather than is it possible. I think we'll finish 2nd behind Wales.

Well it was a very attacking line up and what was the reason why he did not bring on Vardy. I thought it would be the logical substitution as we needed to score

Russia is just as bad (or worse?) as two years ago! How on earth did England not score more goals against them?! Why is Kane taking set pieces?!?!?! Why is Vardy not playing?

Not a bad idea from Hodgson but badly executed by Milner. Just as well Hart was able to recover from his sleep else it would have been nil points.

Not sure how Sterling can keep his place.

I think Rooney was knackered and that taking him off wasn't such a bad idea. He certainly could have made more/dfferent changes though.

Agreed.

There was lots of pressure, which is not the same as goal scoring opportunities.

It was not as if England had lots of "and he should score moments". Apart from the Rooney moment Akinfeev didn't have lots to do.

Slovakia will beat this Russian team quite easily, so we will be going into the Wales match in third place, so we will definitely have to beat them.

So would I. Kane was off his game all night. A fresh legged Vardy for the last 10-15 minutes would have kept the Russian defence busy.

England's best defence is attack so we should have capitalised on that when we needed to.

I was just joking cause that poster was going on about it!

Crouch was once asked what he would be if he wasn't a footballer and he replied "a virgin."

Hodgson had a brilliant team selection and Rooney was starting to tire having ran himself into the ground. The ten minutes after he went off were out most impressive of the second half, did you not watch the game? Wilshere retained the ball brilliantly and all was fine until the next change. Vardy should have come on though.

For crying out loud, Rooney looked shattered! He made a very tired pass just before he was subbed. It wasn't an awful sub.

It sounds very serious. A group of organised Russian hooligans after English trophies and the England flans fleeing and trying to escape over a fence. I suspect a lot more trouble in Marseille tonight.

Sterling was arguably the pick of the players 1st half with Lallana, granted 2nd half wasn't as good, but Lallana, Alli, Kane didn't too much 2nd half either.

The amount of stick he gets is unbelievable.

Anyway, carry on.

Exactly. Rooney has been shoe horned in because he is undroppable, and its quite an "easy" role to have against a poor Russian side. Just like an aging Beckham did towards the end of his career, its easy to look good standing in the centre circle pinging balls around with no pressure on you. Everyone is going WAY overboard. In reality, Rooney was as ineffective on the game as the previous 12 years in tournaments.

We played well apart from the last few minutes.
It was gutting to give it away at the end but the wrist slitting attitude that some "fans" are displaying is embarrassing.

vardy should have been on.

Kane, sterling, lallana all poor.

Deserved to win, but I am not surprised.

Hodgson has no idea

Blimey, what's with all the negativity! Yes I'm gutted that we conceded a late goal but I thought it was a really positive attacking performance and we were really unlucky not to win it. I hope people don't get too down on this young team as I still think they could do well in the tournament.

If you want to be successful then you have to see out matches. We didn't manage that and not for the first time.
