The problem is those responsible for the trouble care very little about the actual football they are just there for the violence organised gangs of thugs with cameras filming and boasting and bragging about their exploits.

So no Russian attacks apparently but the English are fighting the police. What's that all about then?

Yes, and why was England chosen to play there knowing their past history for violence by some of the thugs that accompany the England team. Most of those thugs go there just to cause trouble .

Is where a team plays chosen at random ?

It's done before the groups are drawn, i.e Group A1 v Group A2 will play at X Stadium all through the matches then the balls are drawn.

It was the Russians firing a firework at English fans that caused trouble this afternoon, I suspect they've been trying to cause trouble just as much this evening.

It appears that the French plod consider firing teargas to be an appropriate method to get people to stop singing songs and leave an area.

No excuse for the knobheads throwing bottles, obviously.

For what it's worth, tonight's events merited approximately 10 seconds of coverage on the French news channels.

Sky were just showing live pictures no police around and England fans rushed what looked like French fans

England fans will never learn. Why can't they just go and have a quiet few drinks without feeling the need to start chanting mob handed in an intimidating manner?
They're in a foreign nation and what we consider a bit of banter comes across as aggressive. Why don't they understand this?

When the drink is in the sense is out!

Some of the comments on Twitter are pathetic - people are talking as if WW3 has broken out but all I see is a bunch of gobby yobbos being dispersed by police - which is what they are supposed to do if they think a large crowd has the potential to 'spark off'.

Honestly, I've seen worse in Leeds city centre on a Saturday night.

When UEFA threatened England and Russia with being thrown out of the tournament if further trouble occurred on the streets, a number of people wondered how this would be possible without affecting things like third place qualification, forfeit scorelines, scrapped matches etc.

However, if UEFA throw both countries out together, there will be no third place team in group B and the four qualifiers would be found from the five remaining groups.

Also, if UEFA don't make the decision until after the group stage had finished - perhaps using the fabrication that the French authorities are too stretched to cope with the ongoing disorder - then no matches would have to be scrapped and the second round line-up would be unaffected.

Additionally, if UEFA are reluctant to punish the Russians for political reasons, the decision would be made more palatable to both parties if Russia didn't make it through the group but England did, because England would sustain the real punishment and not Russia - in the same way that UEFA gave Russia a suspended sanction that just happened to expire before the tournament began.

This is all coming off the top of my head, but if UEFA are really serious about making the definitive statement by ejecting sides from the tournament, this method would seem to enable them to do it without upsetting the apple cart of the tournament itself - and, perhaps as importantly, the Russians.

Between our football fans embarrassing the nation by their drunken yobish antics in France and the polls suggesting we are headed for Brexit it's a pretty depressing time to be English.

England fans can't help themselves. Whether it's offensive songs or fighting they just can't stop.

Will people stop tarring all English fans with the same brush . Surely it's only a small minority that go looking to cause trouble and I believe these minority of thugs only use football as an excuse to carry out their violent acts .

This is the whole problem with this country now. Sadly this behaviour is seen as normal by the perpetrators but when they go abroad it is seen as exactly what it is ........anti-social behaviour.

I'm ashamed at the actions of these yobbos.

It's a very small minority who go there actually intending to cause trouble, but the problem is the larger minority who think it's OK to act like obnoxious drunken pricks in a host city, provoke the locals, and will get involved in aggro if it kicks off. Sure, most England fans are normal people just like other fans who just want to have a good time and watch a bit of football. But the embarrassing minority is still a substantial number of people.

It has to be said that is the way English people in general often behave when they are abroad. Go on to any international forum and you'll see just how disliked the English are around Europe : they are seen as arrogant and having no respect for local culture.

Some English people, yes. Magaluf, Ibiza, etc. Don't think it's fair to tar "English people in general" with the same brush.

Significant numbers to create an image problem though. As for the fans, nobody seems to look forward to their arrival in a city.

Yet migrants seem to love the UK and will cross many European countries and the English channel to get here .

If say an English person made such a comment about another country's inhabitants they would be called out as being racist, but because the comment is being made about the English nobody seems to have a problem with it,
