UEFA has threatened to have matches played behind closed doors if there's serious trouble.

What would that achieve exactly?

Would mean there would be tens of thousands of extra people trying to find a place to watch the games.

That would increase the violence.

Actually I think they backtracked on it. But it was mentioned in case of serious hooliganism or terrorism.

Fair enough.

It makes sense if there are any attacks during the tournament but not for hooliganism unless it is inside the ground.

so it could be a bloodbath outside the ground with fans killed, but thats ok - the games still go ahead?

Steady on there codey!

I'm not saying that it is okay in any way.

Just saying that unless something happens in a stadium then there shouldn't be a ban on fans being at games unless, like Mandark mentioned, there is an attack,

Well they have to do something

Oh i know, lets all arrest the thugs who are causing trouble and send them back on Eurostar where they can cause trouble in their own country

its madness outside the ground, people in a really bad way - two critically ill. Many people covered in blood.

What sort of attack do you mean if thats not it?

The type on attack that happened in Paris in November and Brussels in March.

a terrorist attack is the only thing that would cause a ban on fans?

i canot agree with you. whats happened for the last three nights is sickening, people are critically ill afer being involved in riots.

watch the footage and tell me its acceptable, tat the FA and uefa can let it carry on with zero reprocussions.

Exactly, innocent fans coming under attack from yobs don't normally start hurling bottles and chairs back at their attackers and getting into pitched battles. Anyone normal would simply run away from the disturbances.
I beg to differ. If a family were sitting at a table in a cafe and a guy threw a chair towards them, I think most parents would find it hard not to respond. When you add alcohol in, those Russians throwing the chairs at the fans quietly drinking at a cafe, know full well they are going to cause a fight.

That isn't what I said!

Where did I say it was acceptable?

It isn't up to the English FA, Russian FA or UEFA to stop what is happening, that is up to the French authorities.

If there was fighting inside the security cordon of the stadium with ticket holders who got their tickets direct from their FA then sanctions would be fair enough but not for something they have no control over.

it is a UEFA directive for the tourmanemt that your FA is responsible for your fans, inside and out of the stadium.

Are you mad?

If this happened to me, id get them the hell out of there.

meeting aggression with aggression is ridiculous. "responding" like you suggest in this way is absolutely not what you would do.

It might be 'ridiculous', but when people, or their children, or their friends are attacked a lot of people will see red, and instinctively fight back. The Russians doing what they did were the instigators here, as are many of the local Marseille youth.

Is it?

The wording is, at best, vague as to whether or not it applies outside a stadium.

It comes across as there's a smiley face at the end you didn't post.

Why do you care?

of course i care

Im loving the tournament so far

i may want hodgson gone before i can watch england again, but i do not want trouble from fans at any price.

I have watched fan violence get more and more this season and the FA do nothing whatsoever.

This is the result, probably england banned from europe

Stan Collymore's commentary on the periscope makes clear it was a large group of Russian fans charging the England section, including young kids.

If they ban England they'd have to ban Russia too.
