They are hosting the next World Cup, so they don't have any qualifiers.
Forgot about that, maybe as it's Uefa they might drag it into the next Euro campaign but a 3 year delay might be a bit long. The tickets will all be sold for the upcoming games so they can't sanction them now. A big fine will be the easy way out.

Can we please ignore the outraged, hyperbolic ranting from the forum's resident hysterical mess?

A fine will mean exactly nothing to a county full of oligarchs, who help fund the Russian FA.

There's got to be a reason why this spate of English-related hooliganism is happening at this tournament when it's been all but absent at other tournaments in the recent past.
Please read up, Nice Ultras attacking both Polish and Northern Irish fans, it's looking more like not an English thing but a French issue.

"Speaking to very reliable source in Nice. Local ultras attacked Polish and NI fans who were mixing well. French riot police dispersed locals"

UEFA will come out with a strongly worded statement condemning the violence, and put Russia and England on a warning, and then they will think that will be enough to stop the violence, when it will not affect it at all.

Trouble in Nice wasn't between Poles and NI fans. Both fought off an attack by local ultras. These local ultras have waited years for this.

Sky News just said Russian were punished for a similar offense at euro 2012 when their fans rushed the Czech fans

they are the hosts of the world cup!

no qualifiers for them
Nothing to do with the World Cup which is overseen by FIFA.

UEFA oversee the Euros and would be the ones that decided on a punishment which would be for their own competition, which would be the qualifiers for the next Euros.

Well one of the reasons is that other recent tournaments that England have qualified for have been far away. The hordes of lowlifes who beseige city bars bellowing No Surrender and Ten German Bombers at the locals can't afford, or be bothered, to go all the way to Brazil or Ukraine.

It makes me laugh how the press are convinced that alcohol is solely to blame, they're either very naive, or just trying to brush the subject under the carpet.
You couldn't possibly just drink alcohol all day and fight like that.

It's Cocaine.

Witness on R5L said it was group of 30-50 people in black w/masks chanting anti white / pro IS slogans, who attacked both Polish and Northern Irish supporters sitting at the bars.

Without a doubt, the press make me laugh, " They'd been drinking since 9am"
If that was the case, you wouldn't be able to lift a chair, let alone throw one.
Alcohol is involved, but let's have it right.

These lads are wired.

Could English people on this thread at least admit that the common denominator in all the football violence at international tournaments is England fans / thugs ?

In 1998, it was with Tunisians, in 1995 in Dublin it was England fans battling Irish police and now it is England fans tangling with Russians and French locals.

English media the last couple of days were reporting that French police needed to handle England supporters more delicately with less robust policing.

Well here is the thing English people, outside Versailles yesterday, the Irish team and supporters were welcomed by local schoolchildren, no riot police were present. They were in Marseille for a reason, that is not over robust policing, it is just anticipating what always happens with England.

Yes the Russians disgracefully charged many innocent England supporters in the Stade Velodrome tonight, but the aggro between England and Russian fans in the last two days was the trigger for that. Would any other country's supporters have "kicked off" with the Russians ?

Perhaps another lengthy ban from all European club football and internationals is required. And the Russians too should be banned, for their actions.

You don't think the Poles, Germans, Croats or Dutch, had they qualified, would have fancied a fight with the Russians?

England have been seen as the hooligan top team for years so is it any wonder every other nation that still embraces this shit fancies a pop, You make your bed now lie in it, this has been waiting to happen for 20 odd years since eastern europe got a bit o freedom. These hooligans from Russia, Poland etc treat it as a national sport/ nationalistic pride not a drunken fight to tell your mates about down the pub. The English hooligans have made a right arse o themselves giving it the billy big bollocks and it's poor normal fans that have ended up taking the brunt of it.

Indeed they they've made themselves a target with their behaviour through the years. Besides, most other sets of fans at Euro 2016 would simply run away if attacked by Russians or anyone else. Facing down their attackers and hurling bottles and chairs at them makes it almost irrelevant who instigated it : they've shown by their behaviour they're well up for a fight themselves.

Retaliation is just as bad as starting the fight, people should just walk or run away, retaliating is totally pointless and proves nothing at all.

Regardless of who are the instigators of this (the English, the Russians, the French etc) serious questions should be being asked of wtf the French authorities are doing to control this.

Segregation with no police presence at all, supposedly they're scared stiff of ISIS attacks yet Russians were able to bring smoke bombs, flairs (aka small explosive devices) and all sorts into the ground, what's stopping someone bringing a real explosive device in?!

This tournament could quickly spiral out of control if they don't get a handle on things quickly.
