I love KFC! That coating is amazing! I love lots of chicken recipes but that is one of the best chicken recipes I've ever had!

So, what are the 11 herbs and spices in KFC? I'm saying 11 cos that's what it said in Gavin and Stacey once

Is there a spice mix that anyone knows of that tastes just like it?

Thanks

The spice mix is quite easy to replicate, it's the pressure fryer that's the issue to get it the same texture as KFC.

Don't forget to buy a defibrillator – just in case.

This is a joke post, right?

There are FAR better fried chicken suppliers and recipes than KFC.

And that's putting it mildly.

No, I really love the taste of the coating on KFC. It depends on what franchise you go to, sometimes it's really greasy and not that good but sometimes it's amazing.

So, what is your favourite fried chicken recipe?

Thanks for these links, the second and third sound good.

I know about google, just asking peoples opinions of what is good that they've actually tried

You're probably best off just raiding your spice rack to knock up your own blend.

If you watch shows like Man v Food, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and You Gotta Eat Here you will get a good idea of what a base blend is and then tweak it with extra spices.

There are also different methods of how to prepare the chicken such as marinading, brining (salt & sugar), brining (buttermilk) and different methods of cooking from deep frying, cast iron pan, BBQ, smoking or oven cooking.

I prefer using a deep fat fryer. Safe and fairly clean.

I doubt if KFC goes in for anything as sophisticated as that. They probably apply the coating with a spray gun after bathing the meat in a chemical cocktail of artificial flavourings.

We get it - you don't like KFC!!! It is geting really boring now.

I think the buttermilk method works best for me - then frying rather than baking.

I used to love KFC and have really went off it in the past few years. I dont know what changed, but its just not tasty to me anymore.
On a side note, why are KFC's chips always horrible? they are a shovel for gravy and nothing more

Not in the West Midlands there's not unless you know otherwise.

Some times even within the same branch. A few years ago I went to a KFC in Manchester and we got a bucket. Some of the chicken was extremely greasy and some of them were very dry and I felt that they had been double fried

Agree with the above comment re their chips, A long time since I had decent chips at a KFC. Don't go too often, if I do I usually go the the one in the food court at White Rose Shopping Centre.

A couple years ago they did a campaign along the lines on "whoops we know are fries are bad, come try our improved ones". They were better for a few months (saying that I generally only have KFC once every 2 months or so, so it was probably just on 2 visits) then they went back to their normal horrid self.

They must boil their fries/chips. Theyre just soft and tasteless

They changed them a few years ago from those slightly chunky ones, to the fries style like Mcdonalds. They never were great, now they're even worse and always soggy.

After seeing a cockroach climbing the wall in a KFC shop some years ago, I haven't touched the stuff since.

I love the taste of the coating too - more than the chicken itself. My two favourites are the crumbly coating on the fillets and the coating on the drumsticks which is crispy and peels off in a sheet without the skin I like picking the wee soggy bits on the underside off the thigh.Ithink they all have a different flavour especially the drumstick -it's stronger than the others

If only KFC tasted the same as it used to when I first tried it in the 70s in the USA. Much blander here and now.

Cool, I wish I'd got to try that! I've eaten at Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits though, that was pretty good.

The thighs are my favourite, I love drumsticks too though.

Wow, you should try it, I'd get a chicken fillet burger if it was my first time. It used to be called the chicken sandwich back in the 80s.

Yup. Supermarkets have plenty of ready-mix spices for chicken, so piri-piri, cajun, creole etc. Pick one that tastes good, check the ingredients and then experiment until you find your own perfect chicken mix. Then the next franchise awaits!

I like their hot wings. Unfortunately I agree that their chips are bewilderingly grim. How is it possible for a fast food chain to persist in making dreadful chips? It can't be that bloody difficult.

Had a KFC last Saturday, it was nothing like they advertised on the TV.

It isn't the first time, nothing golden brown about it, dark brown more like, some of it was dry
