I actually really do think that many young people expect too much of their partners .
They seem to think that the big ceremony and gold ring means that all his/her faults will be magically erased . The fact is that if one or other is a serial cheat then they will continue cheating (just try harder to hide it) .And if one or other is a filthy slob or careless re finances then chances are that they'll remain a filthy slob or careless re finances . Yes , I agree . Never mind being best friends with your kids, that's not your role until they are grown up . If your partner in life is your best friend then you can deal with most blips along the way I think .
