beautiful sunny day here
as it was yesterday, and the day before

I went to park, and all the benches taken up today
I've got lots of benches, jack, but no sun. Last night the sun came out about 9 o'clock.

Taken up as in occupied , or taken up as uprooted onto a lorry ?
How's Oscar settling into the hospital wing of his new abode ?

Hmm, tell me about it . Being on a "Let's decorate one /two/three/four rooms ! and get all those little annoying things sorted/fixed/changed beyond recognition !" is bloody draining .But addictive . Determined not to ever say (for at least 4 years anyway) "I wish we'd got the chippy/plumber to do such&such ."
Thank God there's been no disaster like yours though, bad luck there Flo .
Well, apart from our car incident .
Actually I think we're not bad for tradesmen really round here. Got the car fixed locally for £300 and that was a bargain . About to get the new sink put in for £45 .......BUT he says if he needs to cut a wee bit (2 cm) off the worktop to accommodate my chosen sink then it will be £70 . Hmm, £25 to make a 96cm hole into a 98 one .Not bad I suppose . He will be boxing in some pipes for me elsewhere , but not priced that wee job yet because it's on a wall due to be papered yet .
It's all a money drain , but I look on it as an investment in my future contentment and what price is too high to shut me up eh ? (hubby says)
Tell me about it! I now want my bathroom spruced up, the box room turned into an office living room and kitchen painted.

The number of tradesman that don't return calls, respond to emails is shocking. I had one say he doesn't do any city centre work because of travel time and parking - I offered parking and to pay for travel time because he has excellent reviews but he said no - who can afford to turn down work. He's about 20 mins away so double that during peak hours is 40 mins each way

You could probably get some Eastern Europeans to do the job cheap, but there are lots of issues to consider there. Better getting someone recommended, Flowes.
We had our bathroom redone totally and the chap who done it is a plumber and tiler and he's CORGI registered, his two sons work with him, excellent job and competitive prices

We had to make a few calls before we found that chap, he advertised on his website.
All I 'Googled' was plumber and tiler in my area and he tiled and installed the whole bathroom. There is a website for rated tradesmen, Flowes.

I'm far to cautious to take this sort of risks

Thanks Rogana - I tried, Mybuilder, looked at Checkatrade, rated but no response from the highly rated people and also some recommended to me but I think I may have found someone through Streetlife. He's got excellent reviews and does all aspects of property maintenance fingers crossed. I've exchanged messages with him today and am going to phone him tomorrow to arrange for him to come and give me a quote.

Hope you get someone, Flowes. Beginning to think we have no tradesmen? We had a lot of difficulty finding a plumber at first.

Have you tried your local Council Website? Ours has a section on recommended tradesmen. Which Magazine has a similar site too and my local Age UK will recommend tradesmen who have been police checked and verified.

Portugal -v- France is in extra time and could go to penalties
Not a great way for a final to end, but how very exciting !!!!!

(and Ronaldo's not playing due to injury , but France have had so many chances , they should have had this match already)
