Judging by the fact Poland beat Germany in qualifying, and Ukraine only won against Belarus, Luxembourg and Macedonia... I think Ukraine is the match Northern Ireland MUST win, whereas I think they would be very happy with a draw against Poland. 4 points is a realistic target for Northern Ireland, and should be enough to go through for any team.

Great that Lafferty is fit enough to start. It was looking touch and go for a while.

Does anybody know if Lewandowski was as prolific for Bayern in the second half of the season as he was in the first?

Take a look here: http://www.soccerbase.com/players/pl...layer_id=50603

He definitely had a lean April.

Only six goals in Bayern's last 12 matches.

Still, he has the pure quality to play himself out of patches of poor form.

12 games unbeaten for the irish... think this will be unlucky 13.

I can see the North get a result here. Poland struggled somewhat against the Republic and Scotland in the group and were really only impressive at home in Warsaw.

Tend to agree with this.

While theoretically 3 points could be enough to qualify us as a third-placed team, it's a risk. 4 points guarantees it. We should still be aiming for a draw and a win out of the three matches - I've no doubt O'Neill will have already prepared the side for when we are to roll those dice.
Not necessarily. You could easily have a group where all four teams win one, draw one & lose one.

Though perhaps not EASILY in this group.

I thought 'Danny Boy' was the anthem of Northern Ireland?

How come NI don't use Danny Boy as their anthem as at the Commonwealth games.

If they end up facing England will they play the same anthem twice?

The use of GSTQ is very contentious as the anthem in NI and yes, we would indeed hear it twice if the two sides met.

Northern Ireland are actually ranked higher than Poland by FIFA (25 & 27th respectively); and Croatia (also 27th). Irrespective, I think a win for NI today would be a really fine achievement.

I remember that scenario in the '94 World Cup when Italy, Mexico, Rep Ireland & Norway all finished on 4 points and the same GD. Only goals scored separated them.

The Irish FA choose which Anthem to play before their games.
