It's a shame that the best goalkeeping of the tournament so far has come from Akinfeev......it just had to be against England didn't it ?
He didn't have that much to do really.

Deserved lead for the Croats at the break. Turkey play some nice stuff but haven't really tested Subasic.

I thought the save from Rooney onto the bar was exceptional

But I thought he could have done better for the gal

Was that better than Poyet's??

Goal of the tournament so far for me that.
No way, Payet's didn't need a mistake from the keeper to go in. Any decent goalkeeper would keep Modric's shot out. It had to be saved.

the technique was brilliant, the volley was brilliant but the keeper should have done better...

Haha, Bilic won't accept that the goal was anything other than a fantastic strike

The replay does conclusively show that the keeper dived too late, though.

I wouldnt say best, but yes if only we played against a keeper who waved everything through. Same part of the goal that the russian keepr saved Rooney's shot

Croatia needed that I think. With the players they have in midfield you might well think that they'd be looking to play through the middle. They couldn't really get that going as Turkey were holding their positions well. Instead they had to throw crosses in.

They did look dangerous from the crosses, and the goal stemmed from one but I'm not sure that's what they'd have liked to have been doing. Was beginning to look like it would be 0-0 at HT and frustration could well have crept in if it was.

For me, Modric's goal was just a hit and hope, Payet actually aimed for the top corner.

I don't know about 'had to be saved'. I think some goal keepers definitely would have saved it, but there was the unexpected factor, along with the power and obscured view which made it very difficult.

Nah, I think the clear running order so far is -

1. Payet
2. Modric
3. Bale
4. Dier
5. Duda

They should find the idiots that set off those ****ing flares or whatever they are, that sound like bombs going off and kick them out of the stadium and ban them from the rest of the tournament

Yeah, I'm not buying the non-goalkeeping pundits' view that it was a straightforward save. It came very suddenly, high and fast.

Or better still, find these flares on people's persons at the stadium entrance check and prevent those people from going into the stadium.

Not a fan of Turkey's giant no 9, think they need more pace and trickery there

Thought the same. Who's thick enough to think it's a good idea to bring something that makes a bang that loud into a stadium in a country that has had recent bombings. Unbelievable.

He only had one decent shot to save all match, as no-one could have saved Dier's free-kick.

They must think it's funny, which is why they deserve an hour's worth of waterboarding before they're chucked out of the country.

I have never ever seen why people think they are a good thing, having stood near one, it makes you cough, and hurts your eyes, they are completely pointless, and especially in this heighten security times, is down right idiotic to think it is a good thing to bring to a football match.

Srna is my fantasy side, so I could do with him taking one of these chances!

I think the Turkish keeper made a bigger mistake there than he did on the goal, parrying the ball towards three Croatians on the other side of the penalty area.
