A call from Vodafone Direct Marketing????

So i just recieved a call from vodafone direct marketing on my vod PAYG no.

A south african guy going by the name onf quinton, says i can have 200 Xnet mins and 300 txts for £10pm if i keep my handset.

Then he comes to the credit check bit, and i get suspicious that he should know my address etc if he's from vod who are my network.

So he says he'll send me a txt....

Quote:
“From: Vodafone:Subject: Hi Mr Coldwell, Just to confirm that I am from Vodafone directly.,Please call me on 08000684425. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/p”

&

Quote:
“From: Vodafone:Subject: Thanks,Quinton Smith Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit TO=4407--------- MESS”

There's no from number, it just says vodafone in the from bit....

what do we think????

Hi flagpole,

It's possible they are calling from Vodafone, but I would ring the 0800 number given from a BT payphone, to make sure it isn't a scam.

I get calls from Orange on average once a month, asking if I'd like to change my tariff.

As I'm on a very old tariff and it's good value for me, I suspect the caller is after a bonus to get me to change to one currently available (but at double the price I pay for calls now!).

I'd treat all these calls as suspicious. If you can buy lists of names and addresses at so many £'s per thousand, I'm sure you can do the same with mobile numbers.

If you were to call a company (that you had a relationship) they will always "verify" who you are by asking you questions (e.g. date of birth, Mother's maiden name etc.). It is quite prudent to do exactly the same thing to anyone who calls you saying they are from a specific company. Make then go through a "security verification" process (e.g what is my date of birth? What is my postcode? etc). If they can't answer these questions or are unwilling to then terminate the conversation.

Problem is, they often can't give your information out over the phone until they have verified that it's you.... A bit of a chicken and egg issue really.

Eventually i had him phone customer services and have them put a note on my account saying that he had been in contact with me. i then phoned customer services and asked if there was a note on my account.

long and short is that it was legit.

I'm now paying £10pcm for 200 xnet minutes and 500 texts

Forgot to mention apparently they have to send me a nokia 1100 too.

I don't want it though. i guess i'm going to have to ebay it. How much do you reclon i'll get????
