Facebook's page titled Unilad (if you don't know what this is its basically a page which covers funny/sad news stories and is primarily supposed to be for a male audience)

Anyway the page is liked by 15m people and earlier they posted about the 'strangulation' segment. I honestly thought BB would get slaughtered in the comments because the page targets heterosexual males usually. Expected comments like 'why are you covering this?' 'Is this still on?' like usual.

But surprised that a lot of the top comments from guys acknowledging how good the series and stuff like 'I feel sorry for his fiance', 'people are do prude', 'but it's a great series'.

This is a place which has been so negative about BB but a lot of people watch it.

Anyways, pretty good/or bad promo to make 15m people aware of Big Brother.

To be fair, people being "aware" of big brother doesn't make it any more or less popular. Most of the people I worked with know about bb and the current stories etc through tabloids and so on - but they wouldn't actually watch the show in a million years. I suspect the same might be true of most of the social media posters.

Everybody I know laughs when I say I watch it. They think it's a joke. Even
the young ones.

Oh I know that,but even if a quarter of those people who like Unilad have seen the article that's already over half of the audience it was potentially exposed seeing it was only promoted on C5 and This Morning which barely get 1m viewers.

It's not like the ratings will go up (of course not), but it's obviously reached out to a shed load of people.

I don't understand anything about Facebook - so is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Well, any promotion is good I guess.

And the fact that the top comments were surprisingly complimentary about BB is a shock in itself considering the demographic of UniLad.

No it isn't. The current version of BB deserves to die. If it brings any more people in then it will only get worse and worse.

Most people have accepted what it has become and have enjoyed it as an entertainment programme and not a social experiment.

Anyone who thinks it will revert back to what it was need a reality check because there's more chance of me travelling to France in the next hour and beating Ronaldo, Messi and Torres in a 3 on 1 football match with crutches.

Unequivocally good. Social media presence counts above actual ratings in term of selling to advertisers and sponsors, who no longer rely on viewing figures in a post 'on demand' world.

Just goes to show, throw in a group of plastic fantastics, a hedonistic spoilt brat who is already in bed with a nubile female and suddenly it's popularity amongst young males increases I wonder what the attraction is
