I've been thinking about this for some time now and I'm beginning to wonder why we get so het up about the whole thing. Why are people still arguing about events of three years ago? Why have I got involved in so many arguments with complete strangers over the past few months? It's only a game after all. The housemates are all playing that game to a greater or lesser degree. How real is the reality? They all have different strategies for getting to the end. Are we all so damn perfect that we can really sit here in judgement and state in all honesty that we wouldn't act in the same way as our least favourite HM under the same circumstances?

I know I've been guilty of being extremely judgemental of individuals who, for all I know, may be far better people than I am under normal circumstances. Why do we do it?

Any ideas?

i can see your point and i do partly agree.

if you go over to the channel4 forum there is almost always a thread called 'TRUE WINNER?'. regarding who whould have won BB5

well everyones entitled to an opinion. mine being that nadia is the true winner. 'she's fabalous darlink'

i am partyly guilty of becoming somewhat 'obsessive' but its just so darn exciting. it just has the x factor. something i cant put my finger on that just gets me going. lol

maybe because it deals with real people. real, raw emotions as they happen. and some of the twists are fabulous.

last years fake evistion night gave me shivers from start to finish. the fact that the housemates had no idea 'two' people were going and to see there faces as davina announced

'I can reveal.....that tonight.....there will be a double eviction'

(wooooooooah) goosepimple moment. lol

the hosuemates faces were a picture

just a thought

Imo because it's harmless really, there arfe going to be no wars started just because mrX Didnt agree with msY

We can vent any our pent up rage, petty gripes ect or focus our attentions on ' Our hero.' A bit like a supporting a gladiator in the arena, or a football team i suppose

Peace

I think some people do-they seem so very obsessive about the housemate they support and act in very disturbing ways against housemates they don't.Many then say its just having fun when it clearly is more serious to them as can be seen from what they post and how they react to posts "against"their favourite or the way they manufacture against the one they don't favour.
Good idea though.

If you're referring to the recent Kate & Alex threads that's pretty much become a game..........we go round and round over the same subjects...........it's a bit like an old friend visiting...........I don't think anyone takes any of that too seriously.

As for the generality of BB, the HMs themselves, in my opinion, are not very interesting and not worth getting het up about. However the show does throw up 'issues' , eg over the last few years, religeon, asylum, sexuality.......the HMs, unwittingly, come to 'represent' things over which we can have big arguments even if they themselves are pretty dull.

When they enter that house they ask us to judge them...so when we do I'm bemused that some people are shocked.....And then when people fail to recognise that the people involved aren't gods to be worshipped and protected from every criticism but are in fact gameshow contestants.....Well..we know the rest...

I think some of us DO take it too seriously. There are others, who take it as a bit of fun and a community. That's the way I see it, anyhow.

Of course it's a game and I think over the years the kate V alex threads have always made me laugh the most .... reading what each side writes and the insults can be hilarious whichever one you supported or even didn't support either.

Yes... the HM's become the thread starter on DS without their knowledge with the beliefs or what they say .... always leads off to a good old slanging match

spot on and as Cameron confirmed the other day the hms are forewarned that doing BB could be the worst thing they ever do. No one makes them do it and they have to take some responsibility for their actions. They all go in there expecting to make money so they've got to take the rough with the smooth. Having said that I'd like the booing at the evictions to stop. It's rubbish and annoying. Just boo someone who deserves it......

I think Electra is having a moment of reflection

It is all getting a bit intense on here at the moment isn't it considering it hasn't even started yet.

I get totally absorbed by the whole BB thing for two reasons.

First because I love people, they interest me. i love forming opinions and then analysing why I feel like that.

I am not a die hard & enjoy my right to change those opinions on a weekly basis if necessary as the characters and personalities evolve.

Secondly because of this forum. I know its sad but over here all of my true friends have now gone back home & I have nothing in common to 'socialize' with the rest whom I am friendly with. Here is like meeting up with old friends & meeting new ones. I enjoy the banter & feel a sort of commardary with the other FM.

Sometimes it turns a bit iffy but isn't real life like that too when large groups get together & spend a long period of time together. When it gets like that I ride the storm & try to keep my head as low as my concience will allow

I think there's a tendency sometimes to forget that these are real people we're talking about. I think it's having Cameron here that's actually brought it home to me. Some of them use the net and must see some of the stuff that's written about them. Some of it quite nasty. How do you suppose they feel? If we can be angered or upset by an attack on our favourite then it must be pretty horrible to see someone you don't know posting something negative about yourself. Surely forum rules on how we treat each other are there to prevent these upsets. We don't do it to each other so why do we do it to them? All they did was go on a gameshow.

Good point, electra ..........

I rationalise this by thinking that it's not 'real people' that we are having a go at..........it's a character in a soap opera.

The HMs become caricatures, cartoon versions of real people...........and that's what we 'debate' here. After all, no matter how much we watch, we never know the 'real people'.........they are playing a part and Endemol is presenting us with stories.

I must admit though, that I'm not particularly keen on former HMs coming on the forum for that very reason..........it muddies the waters between 'characters' and 'real people'

I for one would happily rip into a cartoon wannabe, whereas I would be much too polite to rip in to a real person.

I LOVE football, and I LOVE Big Brother, so your wrong...Don't generalise it really pee's me off, sorry

Anways, I can't really put my finger on what I like about BB, i guess it's the unique format and it's something new dispite it being 5 years old and nearly 6. We get to see how people react to certain situations and we are in sort of, control as we can vote out who we want etc...

Stick with it Electra

Most of the housemates all know of these forums. They are big fans of the show thats why they go on it.

They will know whats been said about previous housemates and STILL go on it.

I completely agree!
There are some of the housemates that really annoyed me on big brother but at the end of the day it is only a game show. I doubt any of the housemates are 100% themselves in there, how can they be knowing millions of people are watching?
And what suprised me from meeting some of them is they arent how you would "expect" them to be, but i think thats because allthough we think we know them from watchin them on tv for 9 weeks we dont know what they are really like.
The housemates do know what they are letting themselves into though, im sure the producers wouldnt let anyone in there that they didnt think could cope with the press and nasty comments written about them.
Some of the stuf written about them is over the top ie i think someone once asked Shell and Marco how long it would be before they top themselves which was just pathetic! Its not like the housemates have committed some serious crime!

good point, swing. The housemates get plenty of chances to "redeem" themselves when they leave the show. If they're a decent person people will see it, on the other hand it can go the other way. The ball's in their court, as they say........
