I don't take it that seriously but I don get caught up in it and addicted to it for the duration it is on.

How real is the reality? They all have different strategies for getting to the end. Are we all so damn perfect that we can really sit here in judgement and state in all honesty that we wouldn't act in the same way as our least favourite HM under the same circumstances?

I know I've been guilty of being extremely judgemental of individuals who, for all I know, may be far better people than I am under normal circumstances. Why do we do it?

Any ideas?”

Because you are all nasty people who love to watch others be manipulated and destroyed by the all-powerful producers of the show. I can't see how going into that house can be a positive thing for most contestants. You have to be mad

I must admit though, that I'm not particularly keen on former HMs coming on the forum for that very reason..........it muddies the waters between 'characters' and 'real people'

I for one would happily rip into a cartoon wannabe, whereas I would be much too polite to rip in to a real person.”

Interesting comment on 'characters' and 'real people' - I think BB invites/encourages the viewer to join in the game by scrutinising the images presented of real people and making judgements about them. I've realised people become very opinionated and have entrenched views about people on TV precisely because the person on the television can't answer back. .......unless they decide to come on the forum!

It's been said that the situation in the BB house can bring out the worst in the participants - does it perhaps bring out the worst in those who watch?

I think it does; but perhaps only when an internet forum is added to the mix.

Forums seem to bring out the nastiness in people; and if one person's being nasty about someone, it can encourage others who have a similar dislike to join in.

Or think of it this way: If someone didn't like Davina as a presenter, say, or had some other complaint they might write to C4 about, they might send one letter. Very annoyed people might send two. Anyone who sent letter after letter would be seen as a nutter.

But in a forum, it's fairly common for someone to make the same complaint again and again and again. Of course, it's in a different context each time -- a reply to a different person or in a different thread.

But it's still a bit obsessive, and I doubt that it's good for them.

I think seriousness is relative.

But is it only when there's an internet forum? What about people in the crowd who boo when hms come out (and go in.....), what about people sitting at home shouting at the television? I'm not particularly interested in taking part in discussions that revolve around just slagging off hms, but I've found on the forum there are threads with more interesting types of discussion - like this one!

I'm not sure it's fair to brand some-one who keeps complaining as 'obsessive' - I think that term gets applied to easily to anyone who responds in a different way to just 'being entertained' by tv. I think sometimes it's a bit of an outlet for negative feelings that can't be expressed in every day life... Is it fair on the hms that they should bear the brunt of it just for taking part in a reality show?
