Just shows you can never tell on here

You respond to posts of posters for years and you always have an age of most in your head but that through me completely

I try to blend in

Yeah, they've definitely settled the better. Austrians not done much since they hit the post after 30 seconds.

I can remember crying when they hammered England, just wasn't used to that sort of treatment, we were supposed to be the masters, unbeaten at Wembley, taught the game to the world sort of thing.

Hungarian crowd well on top.

Finally someone penalised for picking up the ball after falling down without the whistle being blown.

Just thinking that there can't ever have been a Euros where potentially so many teams that are or were the same country in recent history could play each other

England v Wales, UK
Austria v Hungary, Austro-Hungarian Empire
Russia v Ukraine, USSR
Czech Republic v Slovakia, Czechoslovakia
England v Northern Ireland, GB
Northern Ireland v Wales, GB

any others ?..........only one of the former Yugoslav countries qualified so that's ruled out

Philip II of Spain was also Philip I of Portugal and briefly unified the two kingdoms so you could add that one at a stretch!

A close chance for both teams then. Amazing how they can both play really well and sloppy at the same time.

If we're going that far back then Belgium was part of the Spanish Netherlands and later the Austrian Netherlands

But I was thinking more of 20th Century onwards........which might be considered 'recent history'

we,, recent to me........

Fairly even first half without setting the pulse racing. Hopefully a better second 45 coming up.

BBC obviously didn't think much of this fixture as I believe it's the first game that's been relegated to 5Live Sports Extra

Any lower down the pecking order and it would be exclusive to Talksport.......
