Is there an up-to-date equivalent of the Moto E?

I dropped my Swift and buggered it up so I'm looking for a replacement. I'd actually prefer a screen smaller than 5", despite what I've said previously about small screens.

The only decent 4.5" android phone I can think of is the Moto E, but that's stuck on Lollipop and won't be getting any more updates. Windows phones are a no-go, and I can't afford the iPhone SE.

If the Moto E is 4g which is the 2nd generation then you will get the marshmallow update and i know that because i have one with the updated software

Yeah I just found that out. How does it run? Did you notice any improvements?

You can pick the moto E 4G version up for around £65, and it will run android 6.0 after an update.
I've got one as a back up as my main phone is showing its age (internal damage) and i'' pleasantly surprised by the moto E, its not the fastest but in terms of bang for buck it seems quite good.

Plus if it does get to a point where i want to update beyond the official firmware then there's always XDA to turn to for advice.

The Sony Z Compact series are very good, you could get a secondhand Z1 Compact for not much more than an E2, and the Z3 Compact isn't much bigger. Not had the Z5 version but guess that's similar size.

Shame there's not many good compact Android phones any more since the demise of the Z compacts, I prefer smaller phones too.

I've got a Moto E 2nd generation 4G that originally came with Lollipop, but was upgraded to Marshmallow a few months ago. Most things seem similar in usage since the upgrade, but I've found that battery life has improved a bit; not that it was bad beforehand, though, far from it. Worth getting if you want a cheaper phone that's still quite usable or a backup.

I didn't have the first version moto E which was only 3g so i can't say but i would think this 4g version is a lot faster because AFAIK the old moto E only had a dual-core processor and the new 4g as a quad-core the only thing i didn't like is there is No flash with the camera still take ok pictures but it does have the sd card slot for extra memory and you can make that default so you shouldn't run out of memory.
