Coronation Street: When are we going to hear from Kate Oates?
Kate Oates has now been on the job for about two months and we've heard nothing from her. I remember someone on here said we would be getting an interview from her at the end of April and its now mid June and there has not been a peep from the new producer. Does anyone know when we will hear her plans for Corrie and when her material starts airing?

I think it's the beginning of August her episodes start being shown.

Does it normally take that long for the new producer's work to get on air?

That will mean it will have been 11 months since they announced that she was taking over Corrie!!
Does it normally take that long for the new producer's work to get on air? I remember ITV saying that they decided to announce the news early, they gave a reason but I can't remember what It was. Usually If the new producer starts in April they'd announce in January / February. Although they announced it in September, Stuart was never leaving until March 2016!

That is ridiculous, IMHO they should have kept it silent till maybe June or at least until Iian MacLeod took over Emmerdale.

I don't really care who the producer is or when we hear about them, but I do hate the trend now to announce that characters are leaving the show many months in advance. Personally I lose all interest in a character as soon as I know they're leaving and everything that happens is just the build up to their exit.

And even when departures are announced so far in advance, some exits don't come across as satisfactory. I couldn't wait to see the back of Carla but her exit felt very rushed, despite Allison King giving them a year's notice.
If i had my way, character departures would never ever make it to the press until we see it air. |

When the show is in a bit of state - I look forward to a tabloid "Corrie - 9 AXED in ruthless bloodbath!" headline. It was needed in 1997 and needed today.

I disagree, if she gets rid of Alya, Izzy and Robert I'll be happy.

Maybe they could plan a serial killer storyline, bit like some Hollyoaks have done. Bring in a new family and have one of them as the killer, but have it as a long running story involving lots of characters.
Look at the gloved hand killer story in Hollyoaks (if you know about it). Yes the aftermath as usual on HO was poor, but when it started it was brilliant, everyone guessing who it was, guessing who was next to die etc, also how it got more and more people involved somehow in the story, it was great. Couldn't corrie mimic this but in Corrie fashion. Remember how many people were involved in the Richard hillman story. Obviously don't copy it, but it's been long enough now to have a big new serial killer, and then it wouldn't does feel like forced killing off characters as they would be all involved in a good story. |
