Roy don't have the balls to make the calls
Useless and just plain strange ideas from him thus far I hope he does not cower from making the BIG calls today.
Kane taking corners... What? Sterling starting after the season he had...WHat? He gives wilshere 10 mins in the Portugal warm up when he needs games for match fitness..WHat? Jamie Vardy?? Whatt? Daniel Sturridge? WHat??? Danny Drinkwater left out? WHat??? 5 Strikers but he only uses 1?? And puts 1 in midfield??WHat??? WHAT |

Well done Roy . He was going to be crucified if England lost that game . I was thinking how could he leave a player like Vardy on the bench who has been such a successful striker . I knew he'd score if he came on .
The question now is does he play him from the start for the next game . Roy was hinting in his interview that he wanted to keep some of his cards up his sleeve by keeping some of his strikers in reserve and didn't want to show his hand so early in the tournament . Maybe keep Vardy in reserve again at the start of the next game and if the go one or two goals up in the first half against Slovakia bring him on again in the second half . |

I refrained from criticising Hodgson last match, even though I felt Vardy should have started.
Whilst Stirling was just being a typical miss, miss and miss Stirling, sometimes his skill ends up in the net. The criticisms of Roy were a bit strange, even I unsure if Vardy should come on while we dominated Russia, be it unproductively. |

Perfect example of why people should wait till after games before they say/post things.
It will often come back to bite you |

Thankfully he finally came to his senses with the Kane corner situation.
The vardy sub was a no brainer, the rashford one was a fairly bold move though so in short I think he does have the balls. Personally yes sturridge got the winner but I don't think he played well at all, hopefully wilshere will start Monday night |

Very pleased for Roy, think he is a far better manager than he is given credit for and a good man too, which after the circus and off field stuff of Beckham, Wags, Terry, Cole, Sven and plenty more, was what was needed.
I'm not sure that the Rashford substitution worked brilliant, I think Wilshere would have been a very good introduction but we will never know, nor need to as his substitutions all had a positive impact and made other players improve. As an aside, it did show the dearth of talent in the English game when the only attacking options on the bench at half-time were three out an out centre forwards. There wasn't actually an attacking midfielder in the entire squad unless you include an out of form Barkley in that. Wilshere was the closest thing to that - and you can hardly claim any good ones were overlooked for the squad. |

Can Roy really win? - no-body wanted Rooney to play and now most people think he has been our best player.
The Kane taking corners thing was strange simply because he is a goal scorer compared to others who could take one. I can only presume he took the best ones in training...or did Hodgson think Kane had less chance of knocking one in than others? Even today with the subs some were saying "well its about time" which is fair enough but others managers would be patted on the back for the changes made. I guess Vardy and Sturridge will start now and quite fairly having scored but you know if they have a bad game there will be fingers pointed. As for Sterling - well managers like pace don't they which is why he plays...no-one else in the squad has it really in terms of playing out wide. (And I am not sure Hodgson is a big fan of Vardy's although should be tonight!) |

The other four and the formation is still anyone's guess, I even change my mind but Alli, Lallana and Vardy should all start and probably will. I would be tempted to have Dier, Rooney and Wilshere in a midfield three with Lallana and Alli either side of Vardy but that would be harsh on Sturridge. I'm not convinced of a straight 4-4-2 although Vardy/Sturridge does look to be a better pairing than Vardy/Kane would be. |

But if we want to play in a similar style with Townsend left behind and who is a different player anyway there is nobody else in the entire squad like him. Vardy would probably be the next best option for pace down the wing. |

Yeah, shame England didn't lose so you could cackle with glee. Just pretend they chanced upon the win instead so nobody gets any credit!
