That's true.. And rest of the anti Hodgson lot who wanted him out before the tournament anyway, are staying well away from posting anything relating to England!

One thing that remains forever constant throughout football is if the match goes well praise the players, if the match goes badly blame the manager, nothing seems to ever change that.

![]() I despair at the negativity of so many people. Roy has played a team full of attacking players in the two games too far, and we're top of the group, but still the same people are moaning.

When it comes to England, the process goes that if England lose or draw, they are rubbish, if England win, the opposition were rubbish, and England were lucky.

You get lucky with qualifying groups. If you had Wales group you would struggle to qualify.
Are Wales "lucky" that Bale was born in Wales? Are they lucky that his Mum and Dad are Welsh? When it comes to winning games of football luck has no bearing on anything. You win games because you are better then the team you are playing on that day. Hodgson's team was better during the entire qualifying process and his team is top of the group because they have been the best team in the group so far. You might win a game in the last second but that is not because the team was lucky its because your team was better at playing the game for the entire length of the game. |

The calls he should make for the next game are drop Sterling, Kane and Alli. Play the form players and keep momentum going. He's at least listening given he took corners away from Kane.
Not a fan of Hodgson but if he acts on what he sees rather than blind loyalty then we have the players to do well, despite some of them playing in sub-optimal positions. |

What as Brazil got to do with anything?
Lucky? Oh come on let's at least stick to some degree of reality. You do not come though a qualifying group in the way Engalnd did by being "Lucky", You don't get to be top of the group by being "Lucky". Switzerland, Slovenia, Estonia, Lithuania, san marino. World cup qualifying Ukraine, Montenegro, Poland, Moldova, san marino it's hardly above and beyond winning those groups. We know what happened in Brazil. The manager is the same incompetent manager he was in Brazil. Vardy saved his job yesterday, and I still think England were lucky. |

Agreed. I would drop Alli for Wilshere and play Vardy and Sturridge up front next game.
Vardy Sturridge Wilshere Rooney Lallana Dier Rose Cahill Smalling Walker Hart Think my #1 priority of all would be to get Sterling out of the side and Sturridge in. Wasn't that impressed with Vardy despite his goal. With lack of wide options, and seeing as the base formation has done reasonably ok, it could be a case of just playing Sturridge on the left. He's played there before. He's also played on the right and you could put Lallana left and Sturridge right. Bringing in Sturridge to play wide would also allow for easy like-for-like swaps in Vardy for Kane and Wilshere for Alli in terms of positions without mucking around with the whole formation if you wanted to make those changes. |

The job from qualifying stage is to qualify that is the KPI, Now if you do that with ease not only have you fulfilled the KPI you have exceeded it which is what what actually happened. What happens when a competition starts and it starts with a group stage then the KPI is to be in a position when you qualify for the next round at the moment we look to be doing that and again if you finish top of the group you have exceeded the KPI. The "what if" rule is utter and complete nonsense. What we know about Brazil has nothing to do with the current competition or what is currently happening. The players are different, The players who remain from that tournament are now different player due to their experiences since that tournament. Vardy's job is to play football, He was bought on to score a goal, He did that. That is not "saving someone job" that is doing the job the manager bought him on to do. |

I'm still not convinced about the way we're playing generally.
I'm a Leicester fan and would love to see Vardy start but I'm not going to criticise Kane ,yes he looks out of form, but I don't think our forwards are getting the service. Vardy's goal apart and the lay off for Alli to set up Sturridge (Yes I know that's a hand in our two goals) he hardly touched the ball other than that. We really seem to be having issues in playing to our forwards strengths. There were a couple of times yesterday when Welsh attacks broke down to an England midfielder and at Leicester it would have immediately been hit long into space for Vardy to chase. We opted for the safe pass to the side and the opportunity was lost. I don't know if it's tactics from the management but going forward they all seem to be on a different page. |

Vardy's lucky he has two feet, a prerequisite for standing up and running about. Without that set of skills England would definitely have lost. Chancers.

On every single possible way of measuring the success of a team performance, England won.
There is not one single factor of the match (which you could say would have a factor in the result of a football match) that Wales came out on top of England. Dismissing every single relevant fact and putting it down as "luck" is crazy at its very best. |

Maybe I don't have the balls to make the calls either, but that midfield would worry me. If I was to bring in Vardy and Sturridge up front, with Wilshere there too I think I'd end up dropping Lallana. Diamond in the midfield with Dier at the base, Wilshere at the tip. Rooney in the middle alongside a difficult decision to make. Either Alli slightly deeper than he has been playing, in which case he could even swap poition with Wilshere at different times in the match, or Henderson.

The squad in Brazil was not as good, or as young as this one. Roy has developed what he has over the last couple of years, and we are playing attacking football, and giving everything. Luck my arse. Late goals have been a feature of this tournament, and but people dont class Spain and France as being lucky when they get them. Whoever the England manager is gets flak from the same old people, and anything less than England thrashing opponents also gets the same old moans from the same old groaners. If we're putting in the effort, and playing attacking football, and winning, I'm happy. I'm not expecting us to be Brazil of 1970. |

Daniel Sturridge? WHat??? Danny Drinkwater left out? WHat??? 5 Strikers but he only uses 1?? And puts 1 in midfield??WHat??? WHAT |

You can think that all you want buts its utterly illogical that "luck" has anything to do with winning football matches. Its not based in any form of fact or logic. Its really is "jumpers for goalposts" stuff

Louis Van Gaal was lucky to find Man Utd had possibly the world's best goalie. De Gea has made the difference between Man Utd being mid-table and near the top. Van Gaal was then lucky to find a reserve called Rashford, who lucked into the team. He wasn't selected for the team. He was forced in by circumstance. It's ridiculous to think there isn't a measure of luck. my personal view is that hodgson's england were very fortunate to beat wales. |

Clive Allen scoring a great goal for QPR (I think) that hit the stansion at the back of the net and bounced out. The ref thought it hit the post and would not give the goal. Lamps in the World Cup having a goal not given even though the ball was 2 foot over the line. Countless times one team has outplayed the other and still lost. There are literally countless numbers of hard luck stories in football. It's a part of what makes it such a great game, and IMO, the greatest game their is. |

It is now "bad luck" when people make mistakes? No its due to mistakes pure and simple. Teams have lost because the other team has scored more goals. This has nothing to do with your romantic view of football its about facts pure and simple. You can narrate a series of events any way you want, You can turn them in a hard luck story you can turn them into a plucky underdog story BUT the facts still stand and will override the story |

It's ridiculous to think there isn't a measure of luck. my personal view is that hodgson's england were very fortunate to beat wales. LVG was lucky to "find" he had a excellent goalkeeper? Where did he find him? Was he wondering around the training ground? No Utd bought a very good keeper and played him. You don't have a player of that standard by "luck" Was Rashford the only option to come in? Or was there other options to choose and Rashford was picked due to the manager thinking he was the better option? Again was Rashford found wondering around the training ground? How do players get into a team other then by circumstances? You looking to bring a striker into the team you bring a striker into the team, You don't bring in a goalkeeper. The circumstances are why you bring any player into a squad. Chelsea's circumstances a couple of seasons ago was they need a striker so they bought in Costa, That was not "luck" that was bringing in players because of the circumstances which is why people do most things wow just think all these random people wondering around and just happened to be in the same place as LVG at the same time. |

You said two goals was not allowed due to "bad luck" I said they was not given due to mistakes by officials. Did officials make mistakes? If no than ok it was down to bad luck but if they did make mistakes it was down to "mistakes" or are you saying every mistake is down to "luck" |
