The players and fans showing the Euros is far more important than the CL.

International football always beats club football in terms of popularity I dont knwo what the argument is here but lets be honest I see people I know who never even watch club football but when it comes to the Euros or the world cup they are keen watchers, there just that little more something to it, its a biggger place each team is representing and simply a bigger stage with the best of the best players in each position. NO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL is ever shown on two different channels at the same time but the world cup final ALWAYS IS why? Because more people tune in to watch. Simple as that.
Are there only a certain amount of people that can watch each channel so another is required for spillover viewers?

It's obviously a much bigger honour for a player to represent his country than say half of Manchester or half of Madrid.

Even when an English club gets through to the CL final, I'd say people would be far more energised to see how their national team is getting on in a big tournament.

I don't think they'll be turning their business round by looking at your idea which seems to centre on reducing the number of ties to 31 and reintroducing the prospect of Dundalk v Famagusta on a September Wednesday evening just because they might be champions in their own countries.
.
I'm not saying the tournament should have every countries champions in it.
I would have qualifying for certain countries, and the main draw would be seeded, so you'd never end up with the kind of matches you mentioned.

The one 'massive' club game used to be the FA Cup final, but that was many years ago.
The Chelsea vs Leeds replay attracted an astonishing 28.5 million viewers.

There's no mistaking your point. If its not every country, you still want champions only. The type of fixture I mention is very much a prospect.

There's nothing wrong with that but from a realistic business and wider interest perspective it is simply not going to occur so you'll simply have to deal with it whether you like it or not and vote by switching off and watching something else.

Sorry, but in the main draw with seeding, you would never get that kind of fixture.
In round one, the 'weakest teams/lowest ranked teams' would be paired against the strongest, just like the draws in Tennis.

Thanks. I didn't know how seeding worked.

A great idea for a tournament then.

I'm paraphrasing a bit but after retiring from international football today Messing described a tournament win as "the thing I wanted most."

Of course, it's the only thing left. Alex Ferguson said the same about the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Because he has already won everything else.

A very simple qyestion to end this once and for all.
Every pro footballer in the World has a choice to win one trophy in their career - To win the CL or to win the WC. I would bet my house 100% of them would pick the WC.
Just look at the astonushinf size of the French fanzone for yesterdays match. As Henry said "blimey!"
The CL, is not, never has been and never will be remotely as important!

In England 100% of those watching ITV1 live watched the match.

What else are they going to do?
Dozens of channels these days, so watch or do something else .
It's a measure of how huge the game was!

But if you don't ask the players yourself, how would you know?

It's pointless arguing with people who claim the sky is green

Ever heard of a sportsman/woman, who would rather be a champ of a continent over being a champ of the whole world? No you haven't!!!!

Its equally pointless arguing with people who misrepresent what others say.

Passing off opinion as fact when people claim that individuals would give up every title they have ever won for a World Cup is up there to be questioned in my eyes.

The premise of the whole debate was upon what stage you judge a player fairly but as with every time its been brought up these things go out of the window in favour of rank stupidity.

So the World Club Championship is more important as a trophy than the Champions League?

You know full well lots of sports have these bumped up, relatively meangingless tournaments with 'world' in the title.
World Cup of Golf. World team tennis etc etc etc. They mean nothing, so please don't try and twist this once again.

Im not twisting anything any more than you are. The original discussion has long been lost in a sea of irrelevance.
