The players and fans showing the Euros is far more important than the CL. |

Why would have such a bizarre vendetta against a single footballer is beyond me. But apparently anyone who thinks a man with a record of better than a goal a game for Real Madrid is any good is just a fanboy so this is a fantasy universe I feel like I don't fit into.

I asked for this thread to be closed, but the most ridiculous excuses keep being thought up by Ron fans to defend their point of view.

Why should the thread be closed because you want it to be? How odd.

See, you can't have read this thread properly, because if you had you'd see that nobody doubts what he does at club level. |

Haven't seen a single excuse made for him and my very point has centred around the fact that he hasn't played well but you're so bizarrely entrenched that you aren't even reading what is being said properly.

Yes, I did see your comment about him not playing well, but you then came out with the stuff about one quality goal and Portugal being in the SF.

Yet he can't be a "great" because in your eyes he hasn't done it at the "top" level, a level where journeymen, hasbeens and neverweres are succeeding and managers sacked by Fulham and strikers who can't get a club are doing well. The strange definition of "top level" ever!
Journyman, 40/1 shot Buster Douglas obliterating the fearsome, unbeaten, unbeatable Mike Tyson. Leicester City, 5000/1 shots winning the richest league in the world. That is sport for you. |

Do you not know the circumstances of Douglas beating Tyson? Do you REALLY not see how that isn't really comparable to anything and even if Tyson wasn't in the middle of a personal meltdown and hadn't trained for the fight are you familiar with the phrase "punchers chance"? Dear oh dear. Desperate stuff. |

Winning leagues and Champions Leagues, World player of the Year Awards and having a better than a goal game record for one of the greatest teams in the world is not rising to the occasion? Are you quite mad?

Do you REALLY not see how that isn't really comparable to anything and even if Tyson wasn't in the middle of a personal meltdown and hadn't trained for the fight are you familiar with the phrase "punchers chance"? Dear oh dear. Desperate stuff. For the very last time on that particular bit. With All the ALLTIME GREATS they did for both clubs and country at tournament level. It has always been the case of having to do it at both levels to be a true all time great, with the odd exception like s Best, who never got the chance. After decades it had always been about doing it for club and country. Suddenly, I come on here and see the goal posts have been shifted by Ron fans, and now a layer only had to do it at club level to be great. Rising to the occasion at club level is one thing, doing it for literally millions of people back home is another. Conte, manager of a Euro giant club, says this is bigger, it's for the Italian people, not just a fraction of them. The comments from Gerrard about the mental pressure he admits he couldn't get over no matter how much he wanted to. As for Tyson. I used to box at club level. I was in an area that was one of the first to have cable and was watching Tyson fights before anyone knew about him in this country. I don't buy this personal meltdown excuse. He was a bully who could never do it under pressure. Even his original 'team Tyson' when at his peak knew he was very mentally fragile Kevin Rooney later went on to say he would have been beaten earlier had other fighters come to fight, rathet than shit themselves and just try to survive. Anyway, you dissed the quality of this tournament. What about the CL being won by a struggling Chelsea team who finished 6th in the EPL that season? What about the mighty Barca. Two nil up at home against that struggling Chelsra team who were down to ten men and their best defender, JT. All that and they still went out. ![]() But. nothing will ever top a 5000/1 shot winning the biggest league in the world. Club football top class, or a lot of mediocrity everywhere? |

Can I just say that in the last two CL finals that Real won, Ron was mostly invisible for the whole game. Bale, on the other hand, played great. Just saying...

Is no one going to ask the obvious question about whether Dixon thinks player 'passion' for international tournaments actually equates to higher quality of football?

Every single time you keep going back to what he has done at club level when you know damn well that is not and never has been in question.

Rising to the occasion at club level is one thing, doing it for literally millions of people back home is another. Of course its bigger "for the italian people" thats obvious because they are a collective until rather than their loyalties being split among various clubs but if you are telling me that there is more pressure on Ronaldo playing for Portugal than there is playing for Real Madrid then you are incredibly misguided.Conte, manager of a Euro giant club, says this is bigger, it's for the Italian people, not just a fraction of them. The comments from Gerrard about the mental pressure he admits he couldn't get over no matter how much he wanted to. Quote:

Even his original 'team Tyson' when at his peak knew he was very mentally fragile I have no idea what you boxing at club level has to do with Mike Tyson losing to Buster Douglas. Tyson was mentally insecure from day one but the reason he lost to Buster Douglas was because he was in the middle of a complete meltdown in his private life, had drug issues and hadn't been training. Douglas had a punchers chance and won. It happens on a one off basis for a variety of reasons. In footballing terms its the equivalent of winning one game, its doesn't stand up to any form of comparison really though.Kevin Rooney later went on to say he would have been beaten earlier had other fighters come to fight, rathet than shit themselves and just try to survive. Anyway, you dissed the quality of this tournament. Totally agree with you which is why Im am not judging a player on one tournament, Im looking at 10 years of doing it, thats what Ive been saying. We aren't talking about Ronaldo (to continue using his example) winning one cup, or managing one good season. We are talking about a player doing it week in week out for 10 years. What about the CL being won by a struggling Chelsea team who finished 6th in the EPL that season? What about the mighty Barca. Two nil up at home against that struggling Chelsra team who were down to ten men and their best defender, JT. All that and they still went out.

Winning a league title can never be mediocre.
