The players and fans showing the Euros is far more important than the CL. |

Hulk Hogan beating Sgt Slaughter at Wrestlemania turned the tide in the Gulf War too in fairness.

Really? Germany still cite the Mircle of Bern as one of the three most significant reasons for their post-war miracle.
Quote:
And the Miracle on Ice was THEE event that tipped the Cold War
That's just patently absurd.

Is that so? Nothing to do with all the US money then?
That's just patently absurd. And I said one of THREE events, not the only one, but it was a defining moment for Germany. |

If you honestly think an ice hockey match 'turned the tide' of the Cold War then there's no point in even discussing this.

Who decides what is a goal or not a goal during the course of a game?
Team A has 15 100% legit goals not given by the ref. They hit the woodwork 15 times. Team B has one attack during the entire match. A player from team B takes a shot from 25 yards, the ball is going towards the right hand side of the goal but takes a wicked deflection and ends up going just inside the right hand side of post. Team B win 1-0. According to your logic, there was no bad luck, team B won because they were the better team.

You are just being silly and pedantic in the extreme, so I'll give you a silly and extreme answer.

No, Team A lost due to inept refereeing, its not luck when you have given the logical explanation in your answer.

Sorry, but I genuinely think some people on here are just arguing and taking different sides just for the sake of it.

No they lost because someone made a number of mistakes.

And to be on the wrong end of such a number of sppsking mistakes would not be bad luck
![]() And it wasn't just about goals not being given. If the human being had not made mistakes Team A would have won. If Team B had had one only shot and it was towards the wrong goal and the archangel gabriel came down from Heaven and moved the ball towards the correct goal and put the ball in the back of the net then ok maybe it was down to this "strange power" you call luck. But in the real world that goal was deflected by a object that is there due to it always being there and not because Bob the groundsman moved the goal-posts by 2mm the day before after never ever doing it before (if it was deflected by the goal post) or if it was a player it was due to the player making a decision about where he should be stop a player from scoring etc and due to the laws of physics it went into the goal. There is no magical powers at force here. Of course we would rather blame other factors then yourself for losing (for example why did you hit the woodwork 15 times? Surely you should be doing better?) so we chalk it off to "bad luck". |

Off the scale silliness now.
So, i checked the Oxford dictionary for their exact definition of bad luck, and Hey Presto! this is what it said. 'an unlucky defeat' 'the visitors were unlucky to have a goal disallowed' |

'an unlucky defeat' 'the visitors were unlucky to have a goal disallowed' People say all sorts of dumb stuff. Did something cause this "bad luck" for team A? Did a black cat cross them? Did they break a mirror? For something to happen something must have caused it to happen or was it bad luck that caused this bad luck? Just because people say something or believe something is not going to make it factually correct no matter how many times you repeat it. |
