The players and fans showing the Euros is far more important than the CL.

The public are lazy and stupid.

I doubt your mind will be changed, but there's a decent writup here why Argentina a few years after their first World Cup weren't a load of chumps and also why Napoli weren't 'lol'

http://www.averageopposition.com/201...-maradona.html

He's the best player I've ever seen, but no genius does it alone.
thats a very biased article and carnevale?? Lol he would not even get on the barca bench lol. Maradona did have an impact in big games, the author of that article is deluded.

Define "legacy" his is the most famous player on the planet. He is known the world over. He has broken records, scored goals, won trophies. He has elevated the role of striker to a different level. By almost any criteria you wish he has become a phenomenon.

To put Messi ahead of Maradona or Maradona ahead of Messi is simply a judgement call and certainly not any sort of foregone conclusion.
He has not won the greatest football prize of all he had the chance and failed when it mattered most. In reality in 20 years time people will not be takiing about Messi unless they are talking about the primera league or the champions league. When it comes to discussing the biggest tournament of all Messi will not be mentioned.

Nb... Argentina weren't a one man team, but I still say that without Maradona's genius and him playing at such a level, they would not have got to that 86 final.

And that's fine. That doesn't affect his legendary status. They talk about Messi in Barca in a way they wont talk about Maradona and that's fine too. Swings and roundabouts. The World Cup is not the be all and end all of a player or players achievement or ability. If that were the case then only players from the top countries could every be considered "great".

There is room at the top of the tree for both Messi and Maradona and rightly so.

Oh and in 20 years time Messi will be talked about as one of the greatest if not the greatest player ever. The distance of time passing ALWAYS makes a player more fondly judged.

Between Maradona carrying everyone he played with and Messi being scared to leave a team carrying him, sure are a lot of misplaced lols thrown around.

Not sure about that, as good as he was people dont rate george best on the same level as maradona and pele purely for no world cups. The world cup is the biggest stage no matter what you say.

At barca he will be talked about for years no doubt. He only recently levelled batistutas argentina record. And he probably played more games than batigol.

Thats what makes me laugh about messi, you look at brazilisn ronaldo, a legend of the game and the clubs hes been successful with real barca, inter corinthians and then u look at messi all you see is barcelona a barcelona b barcelona c lmao he will never leave barca. Tbh i could probably manage 10-15 goals a season if i had suarez and neymar with me lolol
One of the most delusional things I've ever read.

So no player from a minority country can ever be truly great just because of where they were born - no matter how good they are or what they achieve with their clubs?

Do you realise how daft that is?

Watch the Chase and see the very bright chasers forget some simple questions and facts they would never normally forget.
I just posted off the top of my head something I remembered seeing with Ronaldo, then simply forgot he played for Madrid as well as Barca.
Are you telling me you never forget anything simple?
You weren't being asked to remember it against the clock for money. If it 'lives long in the memory' and you are using it as a basis of an argument then it might help if you could actually remember it. Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid is breaking every scoring record going, did Fat Ronaldo do that?

Of course they can if they are good enough to carry their team, like Maradona did.

how is that delusional? You do realise the primera league only has about 4-5 good teams? Barca could probably beat the rest with 10 men and if they took me aswell im sure id manage a few goals lol

You would barely get a touch of the ball. You'd be too slow, too unfit and not have the footballing intelligence to make the runs or the technique to score. It's delusional thinking.

You always see Spanish defences concede to players who used to play for their district, I'm with shane.
